Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am not sure if this goes here, but I took my dd who just turned 8 last week to the doctor for her yearly check up on Friday. The doctor thinks she will begin her period this year. She would like to x-ray her bones to determine her bone age.

Can someone advise me. I really don't want to x-ray my dd for no good reason, but if there is a legitimate health reason then I will. The doctor insists that we need to know her bone age because this is extremely early to begin puberty.

I agree it is early, but I don't see us doing anything about it. If this is just to have information, is it worth doing? Does anyone know of a good health reason to do this?

No advice, but DO think MANY young girls (and boys) are starting puberty earlier due to teh MANy hormones in food, ESPECIALLY DIARY and MEAT.
We are a 99% dairy free family and don;t eat much meat either. ALL my kids are 2-3 years later than their age-mates in physical development. Ds is 17 and JSUT wnet through teh adolescent growth spurt and beginnings (very beginnings) of a mustahce. Ds, 15 1/2, has yet to hit it. Dd, 12, is BEGINNING to develop, but I think the period will be quite a few years off yet.
Yours in Christ,
Kathy

No advice, really, just thought I'd mention that I first started getting my period at age 9. No bone scans or anything of the sort were done. I was pretty naive at the time and was quite surprised and alarmed about the whole thing.

I guess I do have a small bit of advice... make sure your daughter is aware of what her body's going through and prepared as well as she can be.

Ditto here! I would have written the exact same thing. I was in public school and started before they had the movie (in fact more than a year before). I was 9 and about a month from starting 4th grade. I was so scared. My mom said she saw signs that I would be starting soon and did nothing to prepare me
