Sorry I've not been here much--one of my Lenten "sacrifices" was to give up all but one of my message boards (and the one I kept is strictly Catholic and basically my sole adult interaction since DH is away)....
Last Monday, at 26w1d, at my level II ultrasound, the doctor realized that my cervix has shortened dramatically--from 5cm to 1.54cm. Bad bad news. I have had ctx whenever I sit up for more than 20-30 min, and stand for more than 5-10. They monitored me there at the hospital (I go to a military clinic that is inside a hospital), and debated keeping me there for observation overnight...but let me go home, but now I am on strict, but modified bedrest.
DH left to go to Louisiana Feb 23d, and will be back this Friday hopefully (they won't send them back earlier unless the bedrest is total or I end up in the hospital). His next month at work is already supposed to be a basic hell on earth--they are unpacking, cleaning, repacking and shipping everything that they just used in Louisiana, off to Iraq (they leave for Iraq in mid-June, for a yr long deployment).
The babies look very healthy, which is wonderful, but obviously, they need to stay in there to bake a good while longer (I'm 27w3d today). They are viable, but would have a LOOONG time in the NICU....and would probably have to be sent north of here to Duke Children's Hospital, where I could NOT be with them all the time.
The bedrest is hard. I've got three other dc under the age of 7. No close family (my mom did come up for this last weekend, but it was a tough weekend cause she is NOT large family friendly, and was giving me a hard time about other things too), my closest friend just delivered her fifth by csec last Monday (yes, we were in the same hospital--she was delivering and I was being monitored, lol), and is no way able to help me. I have not contacted the parish yet, but will likely do something this weekend/early next week once DH gets home and we get a chance to really talk about what things look like "for real" for him this next month (he's the "In Charge" guy, so he has to tell everyone else what to do--wonderful)...
The other dc are doing ok. Fortunately, they have LOOONG since been trained to help out around here (training DOES pay off ladies! Just in case you didn't know already!). But there is still so much that has to be taken care of on a day to day basis....and if they put me on total bedrest, or God forbid, hospitalized bedrest, I don't know WHAT we will do. We can't afford to hire someone, and while we have friends, not many of them are in a position where they can come and help out very much.
I think we are going to be hitting them up, though...for whatever help they can give us...
I know this is a long post (alot to say, sorry). But please, pray for my family, my babies...my poor DH who gets to come home and be thrust into the middle of "you are IN CHARGE" immediately upon his arrival home. I'm only supposed to be vertical a max of 20-25% of each day. Not alot of time, if you think about it. And if I have ANY ctx, I have to go lay down asap.
Please pray for us. Add us to your parish rosary circles prayer list. Put us in your parish bulletins, if you can. Any and all prayers ae MUCH appreciated (I just started my second 54 day rosary novena, and this is my big intention--that these boys will stay put, stay healthy, and come out fine....)....
THank you ladies.
Rachel

We will be praying. My dear sister was on bedrest with 3 of her 4 pregnancies. I know firsthand it is not easy.
Please keep us updated as to any more specific prayer requests...we are here for you.

Dear Rachel,
Not only am I praying now, but my husband told me last night that our pastor put out an email asking everyone in the parish to pray! So we prayed for that intention in our Rosary! Someone must have called the parishes around here (Maria?)--- isn't that awesome!?
God bless you and the babes!

Rachel you and your babies and the rest of the family are in my prayers.
I have been in your situation and I hard a hard time fighting the guilt I felt from not being able to be with the rest of the kids while I did what I had to do for the babies. It seems that you are not struggling with that at all and if you are tempted.....don't do it!
Also it is a grace for others to be able to help you out in this time as well.
I am so glad you came and posted so that these awesome prayer warriors can get going!

Dear Rachel
I am praying for you - we will offer our daily memorare for you.
I have been in a very similar situation - when I was new in No Va - and I so wish I lived closer and could help, as I remember how tough it was.
Do you have a Project Gabriel and/or Outreach in your parish/diocese. I volunteer with Project Gabriel in our diocese in VA - we provide support for women and families in high risk pregnancies - meals, trips to the doctor, babysitting etc. Also Outreach helps with many things. If you pm me and let me know your diocese, I can call and see if you have something similar.
I second Tracy's advice - don't feel guilty - I struggled with guilt constantly - as I was on bedrest from 19 weeks with an 18 month old. And I struggled with guilt from spending so much time in the NICU with the twins too. But my then 18 month old is now a wonderful loving 10 year old dd who does not remember this and who keeps praying for twin sisters!!
My only other advice is to try and stay on bedrest - i found it so hard - had similar modified conditions to you - but it made a huge difference - I managed to get to 32 weeks with only one hospitalized period.
Lots and lots of hugs and prayers

You are in our prayers.
Please consider calling Family Services on post, too. They may be able to help out. I wish I were closer.
How close are you to Chapel Hill? I have friends who live there.

I will offer my night time feedings here for you this week. I"m up at all hours with my twins and my toddler, and sometimes even the other 2 as well... I know where you are at!! Accept all offers of help, even if someone just innocently says 'is there anything I can do?'... say YES! Don't be afraid to tell people you need them. When my twins were born and i was in the nicu with them, and the other 3 were at home (also all under 7), I had my husband be the one to coordinate the helpers because I was too shy and felt too bad to actually ask for help. If anyone asked if they could help, he scheduled them in for a day to come over and help out with the kids, laundry, meals etc...
blessings to you!
