My husband spoke to his 41 year old sister on the phone last night for about an hour, and she is not doing well mentally and physically. She has been seriously contemplating suicide for a while. She has many, many medical issues, mostly due to being accidentally shot when she was around 14 years old, and is on lots of pain medications, which don't seem to help. She told him she doesn't feel like getting out of bed anymore. She lives in Oregon with a friend and family around. She is no longer Catholic, so she doesn't have the Sacraments to help her.

I think he said all he could last night, so now we need to ask the Holy Spirit to guide her. I feel so bad for him being far away. I know he wishes he could do more, but now we need to pray, pray, pray.

Is professional intervention an option?

Not sure of all the different state regulations but seriously verbalizing "suicide" can qualify a hospital admission which can be a safe place for a few days, at least until other help can be put in place.

Well, her friend tried to have her admitted to a psychiatric hospital, but unfortunately, you have to actually attempt suicide beore you can be atmitted She's going to see her psychiatrist sometime this morning.
