Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 87 year old gramma is having a bowel re-section surgery tomorrow morning. This past Sunday she had a GI bleed and was admitted to the hospital. She's had a colonoscopy and CAT scan over the past few days which has determined that she has colon cancer.

On the positive side, the prognosis is good with the surgery. This particular cancer is localized and slow-growing. However, she is 87 and obviously any surgery is a risk especially as one gets older.

If you wouldn't mind saying a prayer for Ruth McDonald, I would appreciate it. My aunt said that she has been looking good and her spirit is good as well. Thank you for your prayers.

Today, St. Patrick's Day, my grandmother was admitted to ICU as she has developed pneumonia. She is currently stable, but the next 24 hours will determine whether they have to intubate her or not. I'm rather nervous about her, given than she is 87, and many older people can make it through surgery and then die from hospital pneumonia. Please keep the prayers coming for Ruth. Thank you so much.

My grandmother passed away overnight at around 3 am. She had been intubated for 72 hours, and when my uncle asked her if she wanted the tubes taken out, she vehemently nodded her head, "yes". The tubes were removed Friday morning, and she was sedated so that her labored breathing would not be painful for her. She died after having seen all 4 of her boys, peacefully, in her sleep. Please pray for the repose of the soul of Ruth McDonald, and for her children and grandchildren who will miss her terribly, but know she is in a better place - with Our Lord, Our Lady, and my grandfather.

Thank you for your prayers. My gramma went in around 11 and I got the call from my dad around 1 that she made it through the surgery fine. They were originally going to put her in ICU because of her age, but I guess she did well enough that they decided to just send her back to her room.

I'm not sure if there is any follow up to the surgery, but things look good so far. Thank you again for all of your prayers. I feel blessed to be a part of this community.

I am sorry Cindy. I know you will miss her, but it sounds like she had a full life and peaceful death surrounded by family. What a blessing!

Prayers coming for you all as you go through this sad time.
