Have any of you read this great book by Jennifer L. Holm? I loved it. I was thrilled to find out it was the first in a series of three titles. My girls now 16, 13 and 11 loved this when we first listened to it at least 4 years ago!
Just wanted to recommend it here.

I harldy get time to type, hence my very short posts. I will try to give a brief summary.
Let's see, Jane Peck is about 12 when we meet her. She's a real tom-boy until she decides to enroll in Mrs. Hipplewhite's Academy for ladies. Here she learns the very important skills of balancing a book on her head and pouring tea.
Now that she is a refined lady she accepts a proposal of marriage from a young man who has already settled in Washington (?) Territory. Jane sails from Boston around South America up to Washington. She is seasick and her companion dies. When she arrrives she discovers her fiance has gone on an errand for the Governor. A few unkempt trappers and fishermen agree to ket her sleep on the floor of the shack. Cows eat all her beautiful clothes. The men can't believe she can't cook. Mrs. Hipplewhite's was no preparation for the survival skills she needs now. She learns the Indians are not heathens but are very friendly and much cleaner than the men she is in resience with.

Impulsive Jane, ever on the path to leaving behind her rough-and-tumble tomboy childhood to become a proper young lady, agrees to meet her very genteel fiancé on the rugged west coast of America. Unfortunately, William is not there when she arrives. Suddenly, Boston Jane, as her new Chinook neighbors call her, must cast aside her "faultless young lady" demeanor and depend on her long-suppressed pioneer spirit to survive. Holm cleverly weaves in lessons from Jane's Philadelphia finishing school, Miss Hepplewhite's Young Ladies Academy, in dramatic and often-hilarious contrast to the trials and tribulations Jane faces at sea and in Oregon country. Readers will be charmed by teenage Jane's ironic tone and inner conflicts and will cheer her on as she sheds layer after layer of decorum. Granted, the budding romance between Jane and sailor Jehu, "hidden" beneath the surface love story of Jane and the more uppity William, is an at-least-twice-told tale; but young readers will get caught up in the excitement of it nonetheless. The intricate details of mid-19th century life on an untamed frontier--complete with carefully researched Chinook tribal history and real-life incidents of white settlers--are absolutely fascinating. A thrilling, entertaining read.

Boston Jane is a great favorite here, of all ages and genders! The cool thing was, we listened to it on story tape as we traveled up and around the Pacific Northwest, so it was perfect timing.....and not even planned! 
There is the tiniest bit of girl-boy stuff in, but it is extrememly tame. Just want to mention it. Very tiny.
We love Jane and the kids love to reread and relisten!

Just wanted to add that we listened to it on audio too. I really liked the narrator.
