This forum looks like a good place . I just joined after seeing
Elizabeth's announcement on the rabbitt trails email loop. I always feel
strange joining email groups or boards. it always feels like intruding on
somebody's conversation. Almost like being at a party and coming into a
group that is already deep in conversation... But here I go:
My name is Natalia. I have been homeschooling for 6 years now. I have
three kids: an 11 yog, 7 yob and 2 (almost 3) yob. My homeschooling is
changing as I change. My conceptions of what learning is and how it
takes place are changing.
I am a craddle Catholic from the Dominican Republic. I have been in this
country for 14 years. I am married to an American from Texas and live in
Louisiana.
I love to read and cook. I have learned a lot from the time I have spent at
CCM loop and other loops. I am looking foward to forming some closer
connections on this board.

This is the introduction thread for the whole forum. Please take a moment to introduce yourself and let us know you're here!
I am Elizabeth Foss and I live in Northern Virginia with my husband and seven children, from toddlers to teens, with everything in between . I like to read, to cook, to read about cooking, and to plan tea parties. I'm happiest if I've managed to squeeze in a morning workout and an afternoon walk outside. Seems like everything in life around here gets turned into a unit study which then ends up in a lapbook or notebook. In my rare spare time, I write a bit too. I am the author of Real Learning: Education in the Heart of the Home.

I am Mary Chris Beardsley. I live in South Riding, Virginia with my husband Jim and three children, dd MacKenzie 3/95, ds Carter 12/97 and ds Ronan 3/00. This is our third year homeschooling. We do a lot of unit studies and like to lapbook.
We spend a lot of time at sports practice, mainly soccer and little league. My children also did Tae Kwon Do before we moved.
I am a transplanted Southern Californian/Hawaii girl. I have finally realized after 11 years that Virginia is my new home . I do love being close to the Nations Capitol and enjoying all it holds.
I like to scrapbook, read, knit, cook, and spend time outdoors with my family.

Hi! I'm Tracy Quebral, homeschooling mom of 3, a 14yo son, Jake, a 12yo son, Zach, and a 9yo daughter, Sarah.
We live in a suburb of Buffalo, NY, called Amherst, and I've lived in the Buffalo area all my life (my dh since age 5, he was born in Albany ) We are blessed to be a part of a HUGE extended family! My dh, Marty is one of 9 kids, I am one of six, and we have over 50 beautiful nieces and nephews, most of which are in our area!
This is our 10th year of homeschooling, and our first with a high school student! It has been a wonderful transition, yet very difficult emotionally for me (not for our son).
We love literature based learning of all kinds, and are very eclectic with what we use in our homeschooling. I love curriculum, and have advised people in choosing curriculum for many years, both in my local homeschool support groups (we belong to 2), and on the internet.I was a moderator for the Five in a Row message boards for 7 years.
My dh is an organist of a local parish, and choir director. All 4 of us (myself and our 3 children) participate in the choir, this is our first year participating, and it has been a blessing! My dh is also a technical writer full time for a local defense contractor.
Our family loves singing and music. We love sports (well, Sarah says she doesn't ). We love nature and camping and fishing, and of course, READING! Sarah and I love scrapbooking, stamping, doing crafts, and gardening (though we don't have enough time to do any of them).
I am THRILLED that these message boards are here. I think they are fantastic, and I've been praying for this place for a very long time! I can't wait to get to know all of you, to share support, encouragement, ideas, and our love of learning!

Hi, I am Lisa, in Peoria IL, and I found my way here via Rabbit Trails (I think!) Besides prayer, books seem to be the "glue" that holds my very active bunch together, and I am so very grateful for all of the wonderful insights and ideas I have gleaned from CCM and Rabbit Trails over the years. Now, I have a question- I probably missed this- but will the CCM yahoo group close? I recall a poll about moving everything over to something like this awhile back, and am wondering if this is it! Peace of Christ, and happy Fat Tuesday! (I know I for one can't get much fatter in my current state!

Hi,
I am Maria Peceli of Sacramento, CA. I'm wife to Steve and Mommy to 4 wonderful kids, so far. My husband had Hodgkins lymphoma when he was 9 and was given a <2% chance of ever having children. I knew that getting married but God gave me grace to know we would....and here we are!
We've homeschooled from the beginning and I feel very fortunate to have learned so much from the CCM loop and lots of you wonderful posters.
I came here via rabbit trails.
I've met some of the posters on the Catholic CM West Coast Campout - if you can make it - it's lotsa fun -- just talk to Chari Bryan.
I enjoy singing, art, writing, reading and sports...I've been crocheting recently and trying to learn how to knit.
So, there ya go.
God Bless,

Hi,
I'm Courtney and live in Southlake, TX with my dh Mike of 11 yrs, dd Candace (7) and ds Christopher (almost 5). This is our second year homeschooling. I heard about CM before I even began my journey homeschooling, but this is the first year I've really implemented CM. I can't tell you how much support I've received from the CCM loop and rabbit trails. I've learned so much about my faith (being a convert as well) during our journey. We're just now really learning about lapbooking. We made one so far for Mr. Popper's Penguins. The kids really enjoyed it.
Tim and Janette, how do you like living in Aggieland? I graduated from A&M in 1990.
I enjoy sewing, surfing the net and reading.
Thank you for these wonderful boards! I have to admit that I have had some rough spots sorting out my homeschool philosophy this year and have even entertained the idea of throwing in the towel. I am always recharged after being around you all and realize I don't have to do it all this year!
I look forward to getting to know you all! Courtney

Dear LIsa,
Right now, we're going to try to work out the kinks with a smaller gorup. When we are sure that we can meet the needs of CCM, we'll announce this board there (it's not a secret though so you can let people know--I'm just avoiding the massive influx that announcing to 1300 people might cause). We won't close CCM anytime soon because we want the archives to be culled to everyone's satisfaction before we close anything. I will say, I prefer this format and I think it will be more time-efficient for me. After we give this format some time, the CCM moderators and all the moderators here will figure how to transition. so, how's that for a vague answer

Tracy,
My husband is from Buffalo, both of his parents live in the city now but for a while his dad lived in Snyder. We try to make it up there in the summer, we usually stay on the Canadian lakeshore. I enjoy Buffalo, I love all the old buildings and how cozy the city feels. I do not envy the winters however!
Maria, I always love hearing about Lymphoma survivors! My son had leukemia when he was two, he will be 2 years off treatment next month. I sometimes worry if he will be able to have children. Anyway, the Leukemia Lymphoma Society is one of our favorite groups. Carter sometimes even gives little speeches for them .
I am so glad we are all here and making such great connections!

I'm Bridget. My husband, Kevin, and I, have schooled from the beginning with our first. I have had lots of morning sickness in January and am starting to have some good days again. I decided we would pretend we were unschoolers for a while. Now it's time to build back up to some routines and structure. It's been such an inspiration to read the posts so far here.
I love the forum, I'm really excited about it.
(Lisa, go shopping, take a walk! That little girl has hung out long enough!)

Hi! I'm Janette Smith, Tim's (admin's) wife. As he mentioned, we have 4 boys here and one (I'm sure boy) in heaven and we live in Texas. The kids and I are just starting to lapbook and scrapbook, taking advantage of the many pictures Daddy has taken over the years. I like to garden and camp and I love craft projects, though I rarely find the time. Tim plays the piano and the boys are learning to play too. They also want to take violin lessons.

I'm Nancy, currently living in West Virginia. DH is in the Navy and we move approximately every two years. Our last duty station was in Italy, hence my CCM board moniker, italiascuola. On this board I switched to guitarnan because I may never live in Italy again, but I'm sure I'll play guitar wherever I go!
Anyway, we've been married almost 20 years, and have one son (13) and one daughter (7). We've lived in Maryland, Virginia Beach, and Italy, each two times, before moving here to Almost Heaven. This is our third year homeschooling, and every year we do more reading and less worrying. (Not that I don't worry, but somehow when you're all gathered around a great book, you just know learning is happening!) I am totally addicted to reading, myself. I prefer history, historical fiction, cookbooks, and related subjects.
When I am not teaching, reading or online, I like to spend time cooking (especially Italian food!), making music, trying to scrapbook (new hobby), writing, researching genealogy, talking on the telephone, or volunteering for scouts or our base spouses' group. On Saturdays I am Sports Chauffeur Mom, as dd is very energetic and is now doing FIVE sports. DS does two or three, but he can ride his bike to most of those events...I love living in a safe place! I'm trying to regain some of my French vocabulary in my spare spare time. I love to travel and experience new cultures.
It's great to be here!

Hello all-
I am Cindy Kelly and live in Houston with my dh of 21 years and my two sons who are 14 and 11. The avitar is our in house clown in the misdt of learning a new trick. (Yes you *can* teach old dogs new tricks!)
We have homeschooled since my 14 yo was 6- mostly CM and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere - learning about the Church and bringing in living ideas are our goals.
I enjoy reading, tennis, eating my husband's cooking and helping keep our computers running. I am enjoying being back with CCm and seeing old friends and new.
Courtney... are you by chance the Courtney who lived in Houston a couple of years ago..? (just checking! )

Hi, Meredith Henning from Bellevue, Idaho. We've homeschooled from the start and we have been officially "real learners" for the past year. My children are dd-8, ds-6, ds-almost 3 and another ds-due March/April, what ever the good Lord decides! I am a constant lurker and member of both the CCM yahoo group, LitAlive yahoo group, rabbit trails and fiveinarow. I'm excited to see how this new format will work for everyone and have so enjoyed getting to know all of you brilliant and godly women over the past year or so, you have all helped my home school journey with my children and husband become so much more real and best of all fun! God Bless, and I'll hope not to lurk so much and participate more. Happy home schooling!

Hi, Cindy! Yes, it's me, the Courtney from Houston! The TORCH group was my first exposure to homeschooling and it helped my so much! I think about you all often. Does the North Houston CM group still meet? I also still have a post that you wrote called the Big Yellow Bus! I had to re-read it last year when I was feeling a little isolated amongst all my neighbors in our "top rated" school district! So nice to "see" you again! Courtney

Hey there Courtney!!
So good to see you again, too. We miss you.. and our TORCH group has grown. Hopefully we will have many of them join in here.
The CM group still meets but instead of doing presentation meetings we disucss the original writings. (Check out the Pure Charlotte Mason forum for a post with more detail about that.)
We almost moved to Southlake instead of Houston.. so I know the area. Beautiful.. but very proud of its schools, yes I know.
I look forward to seeing you around here!
