Thank you, Suz and everyone.
Dh and I are headed to the funeral home this afternoon for the Scripture service.
What makes this exceedingly sad is that Eric had served in the military and, after 9-11, had joined the National Guard. Guns were not new to him and he knew all the safety rules.
As with any gun incident,the detectives checked into it and found the safety was still on and the gun had not been cocked.
We heard that he had fired the gun some time ago and it had jammed at that time. He left it alone. When he had a free minute on Friday, he went to the shop to try unjamming it. For some reason when the gun went off the barrell was pointed at his chest.
His wife was outside and heard the shot. By the time she got through to 911, he was dead.
Eric was not a very big guy but he had a big heart and a big personality. I remember him coming to our house years ago when Chelsea was little bitty. He dropped off a boxload of Bible stories on video because his children had watched them all. I remember Chelsea staring up at his 5'-something frame (which probably looked tall to little Chelsea). He bent down to pick her up and, while laughing, said, "Hey, cutie. You like little people, sweetie? Me too. Us little people have to stick together." 
His oldest is graduating from their hs this year. The girls are the same ages as my Kayleigh and Garrett. No babies left at home but still a lot of living left to be done.
Thanks for listening to me. It helps to remember a person. It's amazing the impact a person can have on you.

Cay, I've been thinking about them all weekend long. I woke up this morning with his wife on my mind. I offered up Holy Mass for them this morning. I'm so sorry about this. Please know we will keep all of you in our prayers.

Cay, though I hadn't posted yet, I have been praying for this man and his family. I cannot imagine the pain that they are enduring. I am so sorry.

Just saw this and will be offering our prayers and tomorrow's funeral Mass for our dear friend Granny Olga for Eric and his family. I am so very sorry.
