Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

OK, I did the personality quiz -- here's my personality:

The Bishop is to impose your own order upon the chaos that you find. Your most valuable talent is in giving ideas a reality base and in making the unreal seem real. On the positive side, you can be imaginative, realistic and idealistically pragmatic. On the negative side, Bishops may be devious, short-sighted and rigidly impractical.

Not sure if I like the negative side

The web address for History Links is http://www.historylinks.info/

If that goofs up, somehow, you can google it thru. "History Links Wooly Lamb".

The Early Medieval Period is new and Late Medieval is pending publication!

Okay here's a bunch of other net links for everyone that I've found so far.

Castles for Kids

Kids' Castle

Kings, Queens, & Castles at Enchanted Learning

Knight In Armour

Leaves of Gold Illuminated study

Medieval Life

Also, you might be interested in using the CHC's Handwriting Can Help Book 5B: Scripture Handwriting. It instructs you to begin each Scriptural verse with an illuminated style letter, all 26 are shown in step-by-step example in the beginning of the book. Then you illuminate decorate the letter and border. The handwriting becomes art work!

Martha-
I'm so impressed with the links you have posted and the stuff you've suggested. My kids dressed the knight and explored the castle this morning (and we aren't even doing medieval study right now!)

I just came from my local Dollar Tree store and they had quite a few medieval swords, armor, shields, etc. for all little knights.

I just had to say thank you to Martha and everyone who shared these wonderful ideas for studying the Middle Ages! I'm planning our history for next year and have returned to this thread so many times - it's a *goldmine* of information! (As is this whole board!) Thank you!!

Seconding Dawn, here!
We will be in the Middle Ages this year, and I don't think I need to go any further to search for great sources than right here!
Thank you Martha and all!

God Bless,

May I just say how much I love these boards?!
My coop has decided to have a medieval theme for the month of April. I came here to get some info and research and I can across my own thread from 3 years ago! I had remembered how much fun we had, but completely forgot all the neat stuff we did. We will be meeting once a week for 4 weeks, then ont he 5th week having a medieval feastival.

I'll absolutely be blogging this one!

I've been blogging a bit at a time. I figure I'll have a blog a week about it for the next few weeks.

Here we are, late April of 2008, and I finally took the test (see Cay? I told you it takes me forever to do things!).

I'm a White Knight ~ As a White Knight you expect nothing in return for your good deeds. You are one of the true "Givers" of the world. You are the anonymous philanthropist who shares your wealth, your time and your life with others. To give, is its own reward and as a White Knight you seek no other. On the positive side you are merciful, sympathetic, helpful, giving and heroic. On the negative side you may be impulsively decisive, sentimental and misdirected. Interestingly, your preference is just as applicable in today's corporate kingdoms.

To add to your saint information, the middle ages laity were greatly influenced by the reading and telling of the stories in The Golden Legend by Jacobus de Voragine in 1275. These were stories of the saints, some might have been legends...but the retelling of these stories were to reinforce the virtues to imitate from these saints. You can find different examples like this on St. Nicholas, or St. Benedict on the Patron Saints Index site.

There is also another book called Golden Legend of Young Saints by Daniel-Rops which is written for youth in the style of the original Golden Legend. It's out of print, unfortunately.

Bumping up this very old thread because I saw Sophia Institute Press just reprinted Golden Legend of Young Saints By Henri Daniel-Rops, which I had recommended, but it was OOP.
