Yesterday, the forum was moved to a new server. The process required "stopping" the database at approximately 3:50pm CST, copying the database to the new server, then "loading" it and making it ready for use. Without going into the technical details, I must tell you that the move was more complicated than simply copying files from one computer to another.

I chose to move the forum on a Sunday because that is the only time when everyone expects the forum to be closed to new posts. As such, no new threads or posts could have been added to the forum at its old home while I was in the process of transitioning to the new one. However, some users reported this morning that PMs sent during the interim -- a feature that is not disabled on Sundays -- were lost. If you think that you sent a PM to someone yesterday after 3:50pm CST, you should resend to them today to ensure that they receive your message.

As this is a complicated process, I am expecting some bumps in the road. In particular, I am most concerned with the forum's ability to send e-mail notifications. I expect the e-mail system to be functioning as normal by Wednesday of this week. If you are having issues related to e-mail notifications and they have not been resolved by Wednesday, let me know.

If you experience any other problems -- logging in and staying logged in, posting, etc. -- please post to the Help! forum as usual.

You should now be seeing the forum in the same pastel green and purple colors that have been used in the past. I changed the colors again in order to ensure that the pages were being served from the new server.

This thread will be closed to replies and used as a bulletin board for forum news going forward. I will try to update the thread title with the current date whenever I add something.

Thanks for your patience and assistance. This move gives me greater control over the hosting environment for the forum and I am confident that it will be a long-term benefit to this community.

A DNS error caused web requests for thenetsmith.com and all its subdomains to fail, beginning this morning and lasting until a few minutes ago.

I appreciate your patience while I tried to get this issue resolved.

Very surprised at how fast some folks showed up on the forum once it was back online (and I'm not going to mention any names)!
