Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This week our local homeschool group is going to visit a historic cemetery in Fairfax Station, St. Mary of Sorrows.

About the Church. This was a key location for both sides, but also where Clara Barton first started her work with the wounded. I cannot wait!

Louisa May's Battle: How the Civil War Led to Little Women - recently published picture book. It tells the story of Louisa May Alcott's brief service as a nurse during the Civil War, before becoming ill herself. Very interesting and well presented. The illustrations are nice as well. Good addition to Civil War study.

In this Literature thread, Ellie shared an exciting find - the story and poetry of John Banister Tabb - Confederate soldier, convert, priest, poet.

I see the Eva Betz bio on him is listed in the resources on a previous page (thanks to Jenn)- but Ellie's thread gives a great background on him and sources of his work. I totally overlooked the initial recommendation as it was a name I wasn't familiar with. So thanks Ellie for highlighting him.

How is everyone's Civil War studies going? Anyone done anything special recently or have any additional Civil War resources to share?

This week is the 150th Anniversary of Gettysburg. Anyone going?

Dh and I were very close last weekend, but had to hurry home to relieve my mother.

We did visit the Mother Seton Shrine in Emmitsburg. They have some history during the Civil War. Last weekend was their special Heritage which were extended to 3 days because of the 150th of Gettysburg.

Their motherhouse was a Union encampment, and many plans were made for Gettysburg from there. They are running for many months this year "Miracles Amid the Storm Guided tours".

We didn't have time to go through the tour, but got a peek at a Mother Seton reenactor and a few others.

Speaking of Gettysburg...there is an old Avalon Hill game - Gettysburg. My brother had many Avalon HIll games. He was a big war gamer. It is higher strategy.

He also had this one from Milton Bradley that was more of a kid's game. I even liked playing this one.

Battle Cry!
