Below is a list of the Children Book Awards that have been awarded so far for 2009. All of the information came from the below website. If a book was listed more than once (winner in one category and honorable in another) I only listed it in the winning category: Children's Book Awards

Newberry Award Winners: This has been awarded annually by the American Library Association since 1922 "to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children." There is a medal winner and usually from one to five honor books.

Lifetime Achievement Awards- The Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal: At present, this award is awarded every two years to: "an author or illustrator whose books, published in the United States, have made, over a period of years, a substantial and lasting contribution to literature for children." Given for a body of work, this may be the most truly prestigious of the ALA and ALSC awards, though not the best known.

The Pura Belpré Award: This award, established in 1996, goes to "a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth."

The Scott O'Dell Award: This award was established in 1982 by the noted writer of historical fiction, who hoped to increase interest in the genre. It is awarded annually to "a meritorious book published in the previous year for children or young adults."
