Hi Ladies,
Meredith, you asked where everyone else was...so far we've done these pages: My Patron Saints (a nice long narration of the life story of each of them and images of their holy cards from the internet), God Made the World (one sentence-why God made me, to be illustrated), the Apostles' Creed (typed out, not to be illustrated probably), What is the Bible (two sentences on what is the Bible and three sentences on his favorite Bible stories), and My Guardian Angel (what a G.A. is and a copy of the prayer, to be illustrated.)
We have struggled some with this because it is so open-ended, and can do whatever we like, we don't know *what* to do for these pages. So we do a little bit of text, make the titles in colored ink, and if appropriate, he illustrates. We are using plain paper by the way, and I'll have it in a binder eventually. He's not excited about it but he is narrating as best he can (but even I don't really know what he's supposed to say about some topics!)
How's it going for the rest of you?
Love,
Kelly in NC, mom to two boys, 7 and 3

I'm the slowest, i'm sure. I just ordered a mocha album from Creative Memories and a whole bunch of de Paola books because I wanted to see some illustrations of the OT stories. (overstocks has great prices, $2 shipping and is way faster than Amazon who has been horrible of late.) Oh and I ordered the PJPII book as well. They should arrive this week. Meanwhile, we have been working on what his name means - we got cards and a the medal from the book store and have been working on a tracing his name in the Old Testament.
Regarding the verse from Deuteronomy - did you just let your kid pick their favorite or does your family have a verse?
I really like to hear what other pple are doing because, you are right Kelly, it is so open ended and I'm not all that creative.

Ladies, this is the first of the Foss household First Communion notebook pictures. I had to shrink this down quite a bit to make the size manageable. Can you read it? If you can't, PLEASE let me know and I'll see about increasing the size a bit.

Janette, thanks for scanning and posting! I'd love to see the whole thing if you have the time. Elizabeth, that is a beautiful album. Thanks for sharing it; it really does help to see one put together. I hope my son's turns out half as nice.

Elizabeth, thanks again for sharing your son's beautiful book. It is SO helpful for those of us who need visuals for inspiration What kind of picture or clip art was used for the bible page. I love it and would love to find something similar. Or maybe your son made this himself??? Thanks so much for your help and again for sharing with us!

All I can say is "WOW!" I better get started on getting this stuff organized. If I start now, by next November we should have it done in time for FHC and confirmation.

we have done the first 8 pages. I planned to be further along, but that first trimester really set me back. not only do the pages look beautiful, my son asks every day to work on his book. he has learned so much and he really has a sense of putting it all together.
as a push to finish, we have invited our parish priest over for tea next month and my son will show Father the FC book. I think this was wonderful idea for a first communion project and i'm particularly grateful to elizabeth for posting her children's books.
