What if you applied the stations of the cross pictures to the votives???
I'd love to try this, just had the idea, and haven't tried it out but in the interest of sharing the idea before the board closes up tomorrow couldn't you print off some pictures of the stations and size them to fit the candles? I'd probably do B&W as I don't have a color printer and I like the idea of the starkness anyhow. Then I'd grab my big roll of clear packing tape and wrap the picture to the votive, I don't have any liquid glue handy and I do try to use what I have available.

I like that idea...but I'm worried a little of the tape handling the heat? |

I pasted the pictures with a glue stick. I don't know how it will work out, but it looks beautiful
Thanks for the idea.

I have to laugh!
I was inspired by Ruth's candles and went down to our cheap store to find something similarly suitable and I bought some red candles and some....wait for it.....shot glasses!!
And their just perfect!

Annie
I didn't think of glasses, I went looking and couldn't find a cheap alternative. Can I ask why red?

I got mine at Dollars and Cents and they were the only things affordable - I chose red as they were to go in front of each Station of the Cross, to represent the passion. They did have a purple but it was very, very pinky, so I thought the red would be better, in that case.

I think red is a great idea. I'm so happy you all have made this craft. It is definately a tradition we will keep. We actually pray the stations every morning because of it. I have to thank Jennifer for giving me the idea to add the pictures to votives.
Annie, do you have pictures?
God bles you all.

Ruth,
Is the glue holding up fine? I'm thinking about doing this with pint sized Mason jars.

The glue is working out great. I wish we had tought about coloring the pictures before we glued them on, though. The pictures aren't very clear, but it still looks beautiful
God bless,

Ruth, here it is in red - I have them set like this during the week as it looks nice in front of the pure white statue of the Child Jesus holding His red Sacred Heart out to us and then the plan is for Friday evening, to set up the Stations and put a candle in front of each one in the way you described it, the children are looking forward to turning off the lights and blowing out each candle in front of the grotto pictures as we go through them one by one.
We are still making our Stations, we have had a typical lent where things haven't gone to plan but hope to use them for this Friday coming.
The glass shots are slightly thinner at the bottom, so I pared down the sides of the candles at the bottom, they fit nice and snug.

This is stunning!!!!! I think I'll used red candles next year. Your altar is beautiful.
Our Lent has been the same. There are some days that the day gets away from me, and it's bedtime before I get to sit down and do certain activities with the kids. So I put them to bed and try again the next day.
Thanks for posting the picture. It is lovely
Have a blessed day.

Donna Marie,
I never noticed that, until you said it. I did have to pare down the bottom of the candles it is shaped like a heart and the wicks not used at this stage with the extra mound of wax it tops looks like the flame!
Thank you for pointing that out!
Forty Days sounds absolutely brillant.
