Sorry, I haven't figured out quotes, but JennGM, you asked about my ds. His surgery seems to have gone well. We go back to the eye doctor in February to find out for sure. The doc wanted to give dh time to recover from his hip replacement before we had to bring ds back. Thank you for asking.
We spent today in Joplin for dh's hip. He is doing really well. At one month past surgery he is getting around on a cane, and he has managed a few soccer "practices" with our boys(in our yard). It has been a long time since dh could do that. Long before we knew he had bad hips!!!!
Please excuse my horrible typing!!!!

Good Morning!
I am really thoughtless, but maybe it is not too late to offer some german chocolate or some leftover Christmas stollen with or without Marzipan?????
It is so great that Elizabeth and Msclavel re-discovered each other here! Very exciting!
We drive a very large car for European standards. Our Mercedes Viano seats 7, so we have space for 1 more!?!?!?!?!? But I am more than willing to go into debt to buy a larger car if we would have twins!!!! (I am not pg, but hope to be)
When we were looking for a larger car we discovered that the Mercedes was cheaper than a VW bus. The VW buses are very very nice here.
Diane, we better meet up soon, if you are really leaving the Continent this summer. We have to find an interesting halfway point to discover together with the children. Maybe somewhere near Cologne. We would love to show the girls the Cathedral there. If we took the train, the trainstation is right next to the Cathedral.
The sun is shining right now. Something I haven't seen here in weeks. I better get out with the girls today.

Ohhhh don't leave yet! I haven't driven down to LA to see you! By the way, I tried to PM you but your mailbox was full.
Before living in MS, I lived in Chicago where it's cold, cold, cold! I bought myself a full-length down coat which saved my poor Asian blood. As for driving in the snow, it wasn't too bad. Chicago is used to a lot of snow and ice, so when there is always ice trucks on the road. However, when we lived in Austin during a particularly cold winter, the city & the locals couldn't deal with all that ice on the road. Now THAT was scary!

I am worried about my poor Caribbean blood. Here in North LA when there is ice everything shuts down. I heard somebody said that in CO the number of accidents have increased because all the Californians that have moved there
To tell you the truth my ideal place to move is somewhere in FL- it is a lot closer to the Dominican Republic. But my dh won't even consider it
Alice, New York as in New York State or New York city? I don't know if I could live in the big city...

I've popped into this thread so many times but I haven't properly introduced myself yet.
Hello everybody! It's so good to "meet" you. I'm Genevieve & I've been around for two years now. I don't chime in much because my sons are only 4 and 2.
I grew up in Singapore and came over for college. Upon graduation, I married my husband and started a family pretty soon after that. My parents are still back East. Yes... you did the math right I'm only 27 years old.
So due to the nature of my husband's work (nope he's not military), we've moved every year now with the present "long" assignment of three years. I'm so happy! It is because our constant relocation and being far from family that this board has become so special to me. My friendships here doesn't change despite the moves & I can always drop by to have tea with lovely ladies despite nap times and a one car scenario.
Ahhh... well I have to step out for a while. The children slept in today but starting to stir.

Good morning, ladies! On this bitter cold morning (-25C) I bring to our get-together cranberry scones. I made them for the first time this week and they are yummy. Mind you, I am the only one in my family who likes them so there is lots to share.
Maria P. I tried to post yesterday in response to your mentioning of your dd's dyslexia, but my computer wouldn't let me post, so I am going to try again. I don't know much about dyslexia. My dh has it on a lesser level and I am thinking my ds may have it as well. He is only starting to learn to read so it is still early to tell. But my dd has dyslexia with numbers. This is called Dyscalculia. She gets her numbers mixed up and she cannot remember how to do various concepts. I, too, have not had her tested but from everything I have read, this is my dd. What I used to think were dd's ideosyncracies and quirks are actually characteristics of Dyscalculia.
I just want to encourage you as you begin this particular journey. Your dd is in the best place that she can be, being home with you, having you as her teacher. Now that you know that there is a problem, you can find ways to overcome it or at least to help her cope with it. That is what we are doing now. Some days it is very frustrating, but on the days that we make progress, well, the victory is sweet.
Blessings,
Julia (who gets to stay inside where it is nice and warm while dh takes dd to dentist appt. Whew!)

Oh, Julia --
May I have your cranberry scone recipe? I've got some cranberries sitting here and I need to do something with them. I'm not terribly creative when it comes to the kitchen ....

Talking about moving, my dh and I are considering a move to Indiana but the cold terrifies me. How is it like to live up north? Aren't you scared of blizzards and driving in snow? We talked about moving to the NoVa area but everybody that has talked to us have said the same:" don't come here it is so expensive".
Natalia,
I grew up in South Florida and then lived in New Orleans for 10 years. We moved to the Philadelphia PA area about 4 1/2 years ago. It really does feel like home now, I actually find myself hoping for snow soon.
The adjustment to winter wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. I LOVE having four seasons and nothing beats having everyone "trapped" at home during a snow storm with a fire going in the fireplace and hot cocoa in our cups. It's a fun kind of adventure. But lest you think I am just the adventurous type my hubby would like to head in the direction of Montana and I maintain that it is just TOO cold there!
Have a wonderful day everyone, we're off to start our day and I need to fill up my favorite winter mug with some breakfast blend!

Wow-- this has been so much fun to read!
Lorri, the mixing bowl (I don't think anyone answered your question) is where I95, 395, maybe 495 all "mix" together, and if you miss your exit you'll end up in Istanboul (or Springfield ). Anyone familiar with Northern VA knows that traffic on your own block can be backed up for hours, and once you're on a major road, forget it!
For all of you NOVA ladies, would you mind my asking what parish you are in? I'm at Holy Trinity in Bristow. We're so blessed to have a great homeschooling group, and it was through them that I found Elizabeth's book. I was at my wits end with the idea of homeschooling my kindergartener a boxed curriculum, and after asking God for help, I ran into someone from our group at Target that afternoon, and after chatting about my problem she suggested Elizabeth's book. I haven't looked back! Just think, miracles happen in Target, too

I don't remember a Des Colores sticker ever, but you are right on about Marriage Encounter. They were extremely active when I was young.
Thank you so much for the compliment. I was painfully shy as a child, and certainly NEVER thought of myself as beautiful. I pretty much lived at that pool during the summers, so I shouldn't be surprised that I would be remembered there. Now I've got to see if my parents remember you.

Anne McD-
I live in Sheffield Manor in Bristow, but we are still parishioners at All Saints (waiting for the Church to be completed) and mostly active with ASH in Manassas. I think come this fall we may start seeking some activities with the Holy Trinity group in my quest to drive as little as possible . And may do the parish switch at the same time.

Well, howdy Neigbor! We live in Lanier Farms! It will be so nice once the church is finished. We've lived here for about 2 1/2 years, but our oldest was baptized in this parish, not soon after it was started almost 6 years ago. I can't imagine having been in the high school so long-- I can't wait to be in the church!!

People from Saratoga - did you know the O'Keefe's?
They went to St. Bernadette's school. Mary graduated in 1983 from Lee; Bridget graduated 1985 from St. Mary's Academy. There were more of them (Katie, was one, I think).

Mary was MY friend in high school! She went to St. Mary's Academy for freshman year (and hated it). I knew NO ONE at SMA when I started there and she was my one good friend. Everyone once in a while I try to look her up -- have you heard anything about her?

There were a bunch of O'Keefe's. They lived up the street from me. Mary and Bridget babysat me . James (?) went to Paul VI, I think a year ahead of me. And Elizabeth, your mom taught there right? I am still very good friends with Beth McIntyre, my freshman geometry teacher. In fact the McIntyre's are very dear friends and have helped us in sooo many ways. It was Beth McIntyre who first got me reading your columns Elizabeth. I think I had just become pregnant with baby number four . I knew my mother would not take the news well, purely out her concerns for my health, our finances, our tiny townhouse. I confided in Beth. A few days later she mailed me your column she had clipped from the Herald, which happened to be related to the topic of my quickly growing family. It brought me so much comfort and gave me the strength to tell my mom, proudly, that she would be having another grandchild.

Jen,
My memory is shot, but I believe that there was a David Hurley in my class. I don't think I knew the Mondoro's.
I know where Mill Creek is. I got my nursing degree from NOVA in Annandale.
I don't know if you knew any BI guys, but my brother, Tim Moran, graduated the same year you did.
Small world!

Can I just tell you all, (oh, by the way I have heavily frosted chocolate cake in front of me and yes, I'll share!) ... Bill was just kidding me about being *almost* 40, that I'm catching up to him ... and he said "So I guess when I have your 40th in a couple of years I'll have quite a few "blogosphere" women to invite?" (And this means *all* 4Realers, blogger and non.)
Oh, my, yes, I said! How I would love to have you all here - for any reason, I don't need a party! We just had a very nice conversation about how much you have all meant in my life, and how happy *he* is I have you all.
Just had to pop in for a cuppa (decaf, natch ) and tell you all that!
