Panettone, yum. After two Navy tours in Italy, I am officially addicted. Our Italian friends all exchanged panettones for Christmas...and we always wondered if anyone actually ate the darn things or if they just regifted them!
They also make pandoro (Bread of Gold), which is a lot like panettone without the fruit. Then there are the Easter cakes (basically pandoro in the shape of a dove or strawberry, but then you douse them with powdered sugar!)...
Hungry again. My perpetual state of being. I am a total foodie!

Oh, in my defense, dh and I didn't eat all that panettone alone! I only had a few pieces, promise!
I keep forgetting to say hi to Melanie. I remember your blog post about the twins popping up on Bloglines. It had been awhile for a post and so I checked your blog out. What a surprise about the twins! I think and pray for you often, because it seems you're still reeling with the surprise. To not have been prepared...well, it seems to take a good part of pregnancy for many people to adjust to the idea of not one, but two...but you didn't have that!
JenniferS how is your son? Will there be more surgeries this coming year?

Melanie ~ Parking those things is not as hard as you think. We got our 15 passenger when I was pg with #5, and I was SOOOOO scared. The day after we got it I had a busy running errand type of day, and by the end of it, I was zippin' around like it was the little sports car I've always dreamed of driving! And thank for the compliment on my blog banner, I'm going to change it again today I believe, I got a new camera yesterday!
CiCi, Your too kind!
Cheryl, Your kids are welcome to come play with mine anyday (well, okay, maybe not today, they'd likely share their virus). How I wish you were closer!
MarieC and MissyC, who both post here once in awhile are two of my dear 'real life' friends. You ladies should pull up a chair, brew some tea and join the chat.
Panettone? Never heard of it...

We have a little place we frequent Tony's NY Style Pizza (doesn't everyone have a Tony's?). Grilled chicken salad, so yummy...but I digress. They carry seasonally panettone and the Easter cakes. We tried the Easter one last year and it was delicioso! Didn't know about the powdered sugar...each bite, each piece or the cake before you bite into it? There were a variety of flavors, too.
I have not heard of pandoro.

Oh, Irene, I just have to chime in and say that I have a similar memory. You emailed me privately because we both have "all girl" households (except for those dear dh's ...) and not only did we connect, but our kids now have great penpals!
All of you wonderful "new here" moms ... it's great to get to know you better on this thread. Alice, you are so creative to think of it!
I've been here for years (started back in '00 with CCM) and I still feel like there are many who don't know me, or whom I don't know. It really does take time and this board is growing by leaps and bounds. It's so nice to find little niches such as this, or by visiting one's favorite forums.
I'm so enjoying this thread.

Stephanie,
You may not be the only one! Others (you're out there somewhere) who need to work, or for some other reason cannot homeschool are here on the board. I know we've heard from them, so you're not alone in that!
It sounds like you are another "all girl" household that we would love!

I'm Maryan - I'm friends with Jenn and learned of all of you through her site. I'm a big coffee lover. Currently I'm drinking freshly grounded Starbucks Christmas blend (it was a present), but my favorite is Dunkin' Donuts - and I order it "regular" in New England which means loaded with cream and sugar. But down here in VA, I need to specify regular coffee with cream and sugar. Just a bagel here, I have no idea what a pannetone is! Bland Irish food person that I am! I limit myself to half a pot in the morning -- but I'm delighted to say that I just got a new 12 cup pot that enabled me to up my half a pot dosage to 6 cups!!
I'm a SAHM and love to be social, but little ones like routine, so I try to stick to it at home!! I'm not a phone person (one of my boys would do something dangerous while I'm on it!) So it's definitely easier to time computer time and get off the computer than the phone. So I appreciate this forum greatly!
Background on me: I'm a southern Connecticut girl that relocated to NOVA after graduating from Magdalen in NH. I was a middle/high school teacher at a Catholic school for ten years, got married at 30 and now at 36 have four boys! My hubby's passion is basketball and sports in general (he coaches), so we have a lot of sports talk around the house! I'm a yellow kitchen kind of person - mainly because if I have to be in it all day, I'd like it to be bright and cherry.
This is my first year of homeschool. After years of teaching people who already know how to read and write, it's been a great learning experience to go back to the basics. I started very scheduled and get less scheduled as I go along!! I love reading everyone's religious traditions, family life solutions, and book recommendations. They've been great food for thought!!

Hi all
I must just poke my head in before there are another 7 pages to wade through! Really enjoying the discussion.
Jenn, we were just given the most recent panettone over new year, otherwise there really wouldn't be any left!
By the way I'm really not called Doris! But Elizabeth was already taken as a username (!) so I used my grandmother's name instead. (The other choice would have been Queenie, LOL!)
Right, must get supper out of the oven before it's incinerated. (Cod in creme fraiche by the way, with cherry tomatoes and basil leaves and parmesan. Really easy and yummy and gets the kids to eat fish!)

[QUOTE=theresa-lynn]
What we really need is to get ourselves a bigger van, because our five carseats don't fit very well at all in our little odyssey. My dh wants one of those big huge ones, but i'm not sure how I would ever park that thing!!
QUOTE]
I'm not through reading the whole thread yet, but had to jump in and say, hi, Melanie! I have been trying to guess where you live for a long time! (Also, we are in the same position as far as the van goes.)
To introduce myself... I'm Angela, and I suppose I'm neither old nor very new, but I haven't been around a whole year yet. I found these forums when I asked Lissa a question on her blog about baby slings for my twins, and she directed me here. I couldn't believe the wealth of information!
My husband and I have been married for 12 years, and we have 5 kids (ds age 10, dd age 7.5, ds age 3.5, and twins age 15 months -- both VERY ACTIVE boys ). I'm also expecting again in early September. My oldest went to preschool for about 6 months when he was 3, but we've homeschooled ever since. We moved to 15 acres in rural upstate New York a little under two years ago; before that we were in St. Louis, MO for 7 years following brief stints in Germantown, MD (where my oldest was born) and Portland, OR. (I was laughing about the posts about traffic in the DC area, because I can only *imagine* what it's like now! I used to have to drive from Germantown to Tyson's Corner, VA to work every day, and it would often take me two hours. That was not fun for a girl who grew up in rural Tennessee!!!)
Looks like I had better take my tea and go figure out what we're going to have for dinner. (Spaghetti, I think -- we spent most of the day at the doctor's office with my sick 3 yo, so it has to be something simple.) I'll be back later to read the posts I've missed!

Ok, I'm glad to hear this... what kind of van do you have? Does it fit in your garage? Do you have all of the seats in the van or did you take some of them out? So many questions I'm not sure if it's worth it to go bigger or not. Sooner or later God will probably bless us with some more children (although hopefully after a little space this time ) and then we'll definately need something bigger.

Oh! I *love* Ghirardelli chocolate. My dh and I used to go the Ghirardelli cafe in downtown Chicago for dates. Ahhh... those were good times. In fact, I was just munching on some of their bittersweet chocolate chips... I know, I know you are suppose to put them in cookies but hmmm... they taste so good on their own. Only recently, I was gazing longingly at these. Chocosphere also has an amazing selection of international chocolate. Ohh... if all of you were here, we could break open a bag together. But then again, Diane probably has a better selection at her home. Lucky girl!

Jenn, thank you for your prayers and thoughts. It was such a big shock, and i'm still trying to adjust. Many days I look down at my arms and am still suprised to see two babies there!! In many ways it was a big blessing to not have known about them though. I'm such a worrier, and I would have spent my whole pg wondering how i was going to cope, worrying about prematurity, stressing about homeschooling, etc. Also, my midwife is not allowed to deliver twins by law, so because I didnt' know I still got to remain under her care my whole pg. If I did know, i would have had an OB caring for me, and been labled high risk. yuck!

Hi Angela! Hope you are feeling ok today. I've been better at remembering to pray in the middle of the night and the twins have been helping me pray more by waking up lots .
I bet people wonder where I live with my blog title ... Sorry it's not more exotic. It's named after the subburb I live in... one of the reasons I wanted to move here is because it sounded so warm and sunny (I need that here in the winter when it's so cold... today it is -4 F here..)

Gosh, Melanie, respect to the max! Our children -- only three of them -- are all 20 months apart and I found that a real struggle in the early days. Now my 'baby' is nearly 3 and I can hardly imagine that when the eldest was that age, I already had another toddler and another one on the way... Still, am hoping to be blessed again soon!
I think you are doing amazingly! Good for you!

I feel a bit like a party crasher. I'm coming very late to the party and I can't hang out today. I'm definitely an old-timer and a sort of frequent poster . I'm bringing a pot of herbal tea and some stoneware mugs, with a bit of goat cheese and some crisp Virginia apples.
I live in Northern Va and I also hate to drive. For those of you recalling Northern Virginia driver's ed, I went to school across from the Springfield Mall. We got in the car and the first destination was THE MIXING BOWL. I still have nightmares.
I can't stay long today but I wanted to take a moment to thank Alice for starting such a warm thread (I so love candlelight) and to welcome all the new voices! You all look so beautiful in the candle's glow.

Oh wow, this thread is still as lovely as 2 days ago, I'm speed reading to catch up .
Lisa, congratulations! I have a 3 month old and I am actually asking the Lord to bring my fertility back sooner rather than later because I am officially insane .
I wanted to add that I also do not have a college education. Lord knows, I tried, but after 3 years my heart was just not in it. And then I got engaged and married and had my first daughter a monthe before I turned 22. In fact I was pregnant when we got married . DH and I didn't quite start things out the proper way, but that is whole other story. So here we are thirteen years and 7 dc later. I could not have dreamed of a better life for myself. God has been so generous to me.
Dawn- I looked at your kids ages in your blog. My Lord, we are nearly exactly matched!
Gotta run, baby Agnes is not appreciating trying to hold her and type...I'll leave some Lindt milk chocolate truffles...Enjoy!
