>>Hi Everyone,
>>Just want to let you know that Betsy has a carepage. If you go to
>>www.carepages.com, and put in Betsy Bruton for the carepage name, you'll
>>get to her site. There are pictures as well as updates of her recovery.
>>You can also send messages to her on the site. I will continue to send
>>emails to her Fan List, because you guys are her primary prayer supporters
>>and I don't want to miss reaching you if you don't happen to check the
>>carepage. For now, for the latest update, go to the carepage.
>>
My Dear Betsy Fans,
>This is a follow-up to this morning's carepage message. The family all
>went home, and I am back in Betsy's room with her. I don't really know how
>to put this, but it's been an hour of reckoning. There's only so long that
>you can keep your head up and think the right things. Then the floodgates
>open and all those pent up feelings just pour out. I just have so much
>love for her, and want so much for her to get a break. Such a little body,
>so broken. I have to say that this road is getting harder, but I also know
>that God is with us, so close. I don't know where we're going, but we are
>supported so well on all sides that I have to stay in the game. Part of me
>wants to run, but so much of me cannot tear myself from her side. Even in
>her brokenness, she is beautiful to look at. Grace pours from her face.
>
>I just want to ask for your prayers again. For Betsy in her healing, for
>my husband who took seeing her very hard, and for my kids who are doing
>their best holding it together.
>
>I thank you for all you've given.

I just read in a CarePage update that things are very bad for sweet Betsy right now, and she is fighting for her life. I can't imagine the anguish her parents are experiencing. They are such a beautiful family, such amazing witnesses of the Faith.
Today (Oct 31) is Betsy's fifth birthday.
Please pray hard!

This is so familiar to me with my last boy Jonathan. It is all to real and so tears are flowing down my cheeks. My family and dc will be offering up rosaries for this family and especially Theresa and her dh for strength, endurance and acceptance.
May Our Lady of Perpetual Help watch over them all.
God Bless

Last night's update:
Hello Friends,
This has been the day to top all days. This afternoon, the docs put a drain in her belly, and have since pulled off about a liter of fluid. That part went well. But, within minutes of Dr. Gainer talking to us afterward, her lung blew out, and she developed a pneumothorax, which is a pocket of air outside her lung. He went right back in to place a chest tube to get the air out. Unfortunately, he had to go in where all the extra collaterals are connecting to her chest wall, and she bled. She bled so much that her blood pressures dropped to the 50's over 30's twice. They kept pumping her with blood, but had a really hard time stopping the bleeding. The docs came out and tearfully told us that it's likely that she won't survive the procedure. As we sat vigil with Dr. Hanna, Meredith(child life), Heather and Nancy (Transplant Coordinators), and Jane, and and and, we talked and just waited. It was the longest 15 minutes of my life. Then Dr. Gainer came out again, and I was totally expecting him to say it was over, but it wasn't. He got the air out, and packed the site to stop the bleeding. This child pulled through again, at least for the moment. I am still in shock about that. So here we are, a few hours later, and her numbers are even and steady. There's still some blood oozing from the site, but not much. Her belly is down, she is paralyzed (by meds), but she's stable. Her lungs are damaged from the high ventilation, and probably from a myriad of causes, so if she is able to get past all of what happened today and get her kidneys working, she will still face a huge battle with her lungs. We are far from out of the woods. For now, we are just waiting, watching with her.
Our kids will come up in the morning with my niece Mandy, so we can talk with them face to face, and walk this road with them rather than from afar. We're on a minute by minute situation with Betsy, and we need to have the kids nearby.
I know you are all praying, and ask that you would continue. You are all wonderful and we are counting on you to pray for us. Thank you!

Happy Birthday Betsy Girl! You made it! 5 wonderful years, for a girl who had a 20% chance of making it to age 2.
Betsy got through the night with mostly even and steady numbers. Only time will tell where we are going from here. Our job today, meaning our family, is to figure out how to celebrate her life, while at the same time trying to cope with where she's at with her body right now. God is with her, and I'm sure they're having a good hard talk right about now. She's a wonderful girl, and I'm sure she'll say yes to anything He asks of her. We all need a lot of grace today, so please keep praying for that. I'll let you know more about the plan for today after we get to the hospital and see what's coming>>>

Ok, hang on to your hats. I just had the full picture from Dr. Hanna,
and we've got some new stuff. When I came in today, her belly was huge
again, which was weird because she's finally losing fluid. It turns out that
her lungs are leaking air into her abdominal cavity, and the air is stuck in
the tissue. It will eventually be absorbed, but the problem is how to get
the lungs to stop leaking. We need to get the fluid off, which we are doing,
and we need to get her off of so much ventilator pressure support. To do
that, her vent will be switched to an oscillator, which is a totally
different way of ventilating. So, that's the big issue for the day. Her
kidneys are not working because the dialysis is doing the work, so he's not
so concerned about that. Her liver is questionable, but he thinks she's
yellow because she's not being fed, thus her intestines are not removing the
bile, and the bile is being reabsorbed into her system. Thus she's yellow.
If that's true, it's ok for now. If it's not true, it means her liver has
stopped working, and that's a problem. Her new heart is very stiff, and Dr.
Hanna thinks that may be what's behind all of this, so whether it's
rejection or some other reason, it's a very big concern. So, he's
optimistic, but also very realistic about the surmounting problems that need
to get fixed. This could go either way, depending on how she responds with
her lungs in the next 2 days.
Basically, we need her lungs to stop leaking first. That's the top
priority. Beyond that, a lot of Divine Intervention would be good. Remember,
we are a team, and your job is to pray that the right things will happen.
Just what the right things are, I'm not sure. I know God knows, and I know
His hand is in this, so I am ok. The news is grim, but again, she is resting
comfortably in the arms of our Lord, surrounded by angels. Doc is here,
gotta go
