Sounds great, Dawn. That gives us 2 months to put together a project for the science fair and a great schedule of field days.
As far as the carnival/not carnival idea: We could all post on Nov 8 but... this would only work for those with blogs. If those without blogs want to participate there needs to be a way for them to do that, which is why the carnival works so well. (They just send their stuff to you and you post it on yours.) That is, if you don't mind doing aother carnival. But it looks as if you don't have a field day carnival that month, so that must be your plan?

I certainly don't mind doing it, but if anyone else wanted to host, please say so! I just thought up the idea, I don't mean to take it over.

Well, I do have the Loveliness of Homemade Gifts on November 13th.
Theresa, you make a good point about the non-bloggers - we really do need a place (blog) from which to launch the fair ...
So really, would anyone else like to host the science fair at their blog? I can do it, but I don't want to hog all the fun.

OOPS! Forgot about that one!
I would host it, but it looks as if we may be moving at that very time (hopefully finally buying our own home!) and I am not sure I will have regular computer access. I may even be back on dial-up (the horror!!)after that.
Maybe next time?

I'd be happy to host if you still need one -- although I'm also in the middle of moving -- not a real home but my cyber-home -- I'm hoping to be done by end of October at the latest, otherwise I can use our current homeschooling blog.
What we've done with our monthly event (on Filipino food) is either host the post of a non-blogger as a separate post, which is then included in the round-up, and/or put it in our portal blog -- which we could do if you gals are planning to make this a regular thing -- something like 4realsciencefair.wordpress.com, access to which is given to those who are hosting. Just some suggestions off the top of my head.

Stef, that sounds awesome! Thanks for offering to host the Fair. It would be wonderful to have it become a regular thing ...
I've never heard of a portal blog before - is that something you have through Wordpress? (Is Wordpress like Typepad?)

Hello dearest blogging friends,
I've been out of the loop this summer, but LOVE these exciting and creative ideas. Dawn, the science fair sounds so fun. I do not know if we will have time to participate or not, but I'll mention it to the girls. Maybe they will run with it!
Thanks for making home education even more fun!

Hi, Dawn, sorry, this thread fell off the active topics and I've missed it.
We set up a portal so it hosts all the announcements or links to them, any non-blogger posts, and the round-up, or links to them. Guidelines are also at the portal, and any favorite links from the members. And of course links to blogs participating -- it's actually a group blog and we take turns moderating.

Sorry, I forgot about this. I don't think we could participate if it's in less than a week. I'd love to read about your projects with my dc though.

I had actually forgotten about this, but I think we can do it. When is the submission date? Do we have until next Friday?

I forgot too! I think we had said November 8th (which is this Wednesday) but maybe we could bump it to give people more time? Stef, what do you think?

OOPS! Another forgetter here!
We started a project on sailboats, then promptly abandoned it when ds found the answer in a book he was reading. Took the wind right out of his sails, so to speak. LOL!
We have several other projects underway, though they won't be complete by next week. Perhaps we could participate with a "work in progress" though it is less interesting without the results.

My oldest had planned something elaborate, but of course we never got started. I don't think we could put anything together in a week, but maybe if we had some more time?

Yes, great idea to extend it another week! My kids started a couple, but seem to have lost interest in those, so we'll have to think of something else. Maybe it would help if Mom didn't suggest all kinds of complicated stuff .

I've had a few people ask about Field Day! I would *love* to do another if folks are interested! I am trying to pin down a date that does not conflict with other fairs, carnivals etc. How does Wednesday, November 29th sound? Would that give everyone time to do some nature posting (or picture taking)? I guess this would be the Late Autumn Edition!
