WOW! I've got to get some of those! 
I usually have to replace my prefolds after about 2 years of wear.

Those look like them. I used the pull up kind for awhile with pins and then I got Rainbow Diapers from Natural Baby (don't see those any more either--feling utterly ancient). The Rainbow diapers were hourglass shaped and had a heavy terry pad inside the flannel diaper. Then Rubber Duckie made taffeta wraps with Velcro....

I inventoried...WHAT WAS I THINKING!? I have no diapers at all. I have one small wrap, lenty of medium wraps and plenty of large wraps. So, now, off to find diapers and teeny tiny wraps...

I don't soak either.
Sometimes, I wash twice in HOT. I always do a little sniff test before determining wheather I'll wash twice. If they don't smell clean, then in they go again.
I rinse #2 in the toilet, except for exclusive bf, as Dawn said.
I use Borax and Dreft.
I rarely have problems. Even though its bad for the diapers, I occasionall throw in a little bleach and then wash twice. The second time I don't use detergent at all, just hot water. I figure it gives it an extra rinse.

We use the prefolds with pins and pull-on taffeta covers. I soak the diapers in the pail with water plus a little vinegar to keep the smell under control. I spin and drain then wash on hot. We hang everything to dry.
I also have a Maytag Neptune frontloader & just dump the pail of diapers, water and all into the machine. I think I can do this because of the shape/size of the diaperpail. The one I use I bought when we lived overseas. It's just a white pail with a lid and handle, nothing fancy. Someone gave me a pail recently that was more rectangular with a fancy foot pedal to open the lid which would not fit into my washer opening.

Elizabeth!!! Don't feel so ancient!! I remember when Natural Baby sold the Rainbow diaper!! The 'cloth diaper world' has been changing SO much in the past few years it would make your head spin!!!

I KNOW! I tried cloth diapering with the rainbow and the nicky's...I quit the first day and was out the $$ for all the "stuff". I love the fuzzibunz...and the hemp inserts are awesome!...they are sooo easy to care for...very absorbant...waterproof without the plastic-y feel and clean like a charm...and the baby can walk normally in them because she doesn't have too much material between her legs... I love how far cloth diapering has come!
I never want to go back to disposable. It must feel awful to have that paper-like material next to your skin all day!

I still have a bag of nicky's in several sizes that I used for the last four kids. I really liked the taffeta pants though. I had a couple rainbow diapers, then made my own poopockets. I bought a snap die(sp?), and made them adjustable. Though my older dd has no interest in cloth, I have a dd getting married soon, and I plan to build a stash of diapers for when she or any of my other kids begins a family.

With the Fuzzi-bunz, you have to change both insert and wrap every time, right? How many of each did you buy?

I'm not Donna Marie, but with Gabriel's Fuzzi-bunz I change the whole diaper insert and all unless it was a quick change and then I'll just replace the insert. My little guy is a pretty heavy wetter, even during the day. When I did the teeniesst size, I bought a dozen bunz and two dozen inserts with pre-folds as back-up inserts, then I use disposable liners and it's less poop to soak out or shake into the loo 
He is now wearing the medium size and I use 6x4x6 pre-folds for inserts, and for overnight with an extra insert wrapped inside. HTH.

I bought a dozen fuzzi bunz and 18 inserts. I change the whole thing and I usually don't use a double insert...they are great! They do not leak for me! I do a wash every other night...I think I would like about 6 more. They were well worth the price!

I'm using the Chinese Prefolds--Premium (blue stitching). I LOVE them. I use pins.
I tried the European prefolds, but there was such a difference. The Euro's pilled and never got soft. They are now cleaning rags and still are not soft. 
This time around I tried the unbleached. They are working great!
I "double diaper" at night, although its probably not necessary. I didn't use this company, but these are like it. example

Okay, I think I know what I'm going to order (though I haven't actually done it yet). Here's another question (please answer along the lines of elegant simplicity since that is the mantra of this pregnancy ): I used to keep the diapers in the linen closet. Really, there's not enough room for them there. Where do you keep your diapers and diapering supplies and how do you store them?

We have a little end table (that has three drawers) in the corner of our in our living room that I keep everything in and on. I keep the diaper pail right next to it.
I tend to change the baby on the floor in front of it or on the couch. I like everything right were I use it, so this works great for us.

Truth be told, I have a large sturdy basket in the middle of my dining room table right now. I move it around wherever I need it. Portable changing area....the baby moves so much...why shouldn't IT?

Donna Marie, you are a hoot!! I have my changing table with all diapering items in my master bedroom. The house is so small right now, I just dash upstairs with the little guy to change him. He's gotten to tell me with gestures or a look when he's done a "little job" and needs to be changed, it's rather sweet 
I do love the portable basket idea, logging that away for future
Elizabeth, what style/diaper did you decide upon??

I use a sideboard cupboard (something like this ). I made a changing pad for the top that matches the decor of the dining room and keep all the diapering supplies (powder, homemade wipes, lotion and about 4 diapers) in a large beautiful basket. I keep all the extra diapers and supplies in the cabinet below. The height is perfect for changing and it is easy access but still looks lovely. I keep another basket of supplies (I like baskets) beside my bed for upstairs changes.

I keep all my things in a large cherry dresser, it has 4 big drawers, which is a good amount. I have alot of diapers being that I have 2-3 in 'em at a time! ;) The dresser is in the kitchen, right beside the half bath, which is where the diaper pail is kept.
