Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I do wear more purple during Lent. Lately when I've shopped at thrift stores I've been looking for nice tops in liturgical colors to wear while teaching Atrium. I have the most purple stuff, so I can rotate between several different nice sweaters and cardigans when I am at Mass too. I'd love to find some nice inexpensive scarves!

I have no idea. I read the book a few years ago and fluctuated between calling it bread or breed. I'm hoping someone actually knows the answer.

Me too. Actually, while reading the book I absolutely thought it wad bread because I assumed the title was a play on "house of bread" which is what Bethlehem means. Then, someone corrected me , but even they weren't positive

Glad you enjoy it Heather - it has become my "gift" to share with the board - - finding fitting emoticons.

I don't know but have always said breed. But your question totally made me curious. In searching a bit there is a place in England in Sussex called Brede - from what I can gather it is pronounced breed. The meaning of the work is braid or ornate embroidery (it is an obsolete word). I found this blog post by a Episcopal priest - he has an interesting take on the name brede and the symbolism of it as braid in the book. Not sure if this is solely his take or generally accepted. I found it interesting. We need Jenn GM to weigh in here if she is familiar with these specifics.

I have some purple in my wardrobe which I tend to wear anyway - but definitely in Lent (and Advent) when I do wear it, it is more purposeful wearing. This reminds me of the old thread we had - Accessorizing for Advent (& Lit. Year). I think I will bump it later as I have been working on some ideas for new earrings and was thinking of some more liturgical year tie ins.

Well not this year. I only have two purple shirts and they are both short sleeve. It's been way too cold to wear them.

On a completley unrelated note...

I've been thinking about trying to make a quilt for Quilts of Valor since I found out about them. I know it would take me forever to make one on my own. I was wondering if enough ladies were interested in in it maybe we could make one together. Maybe if there is enough interest here I could start a new topic?

Anyone interested?

I wear purple a lot, now that I know it's my color.

My house is on the market, so I'm not pulling out any of my purple Lent accents.

Ladies, I haven't been back because my sons' varsity baseball team is WINNING! For those who have suffered this road with me (last season was the WORST) I'm just not sure what to do with winning! Winning means you play more tournament games . So I'm scrambling to get to the next game. Wish us luck!

Love,

Thanks for bumping, Jodie - came here to do just that. You'll have to share your batter recipe as I don't have a good one.

So how is everyone feeling about Daylight Savings Time?

the amount of normal change of daylight in the days is hard enough for me to keep up on, then you toss in the sudden change and what time it "feels" like will be messed up for a month or more.. and I have a hard enough time with the longer days remembering things like... starting dinner soon enough we're not eating after 8pm...

I could have used that mug today! It took me 1.5 HOURS to go 3.5 MILES on the Cross-Bronx Expressway in NYC.

I used to bemoan the time change heartily.

Then I realized that when traveling to visit family or on vacation, that was often to a different time zone, and no one ever spent days lamenting over an hour ( or more) either way. It was just go with the flow and enjoy each day.

So that is my attitude now. What's an hour one way or another? I just change my clock and allow some wiggle room for the transition, just as I would if traveling.   After a couple of days, we're good

I used to bemoan too, but then I realised it is a wonderful thing for my dh who struggles with seasonal adjustment, this way he has more daylight hours which is so beneficial
