Umm... not to confuse matters further, but for class#7 we got 58.5 degrees, or 58 degrees 30 minutes.

Hi all,
It was nice of you to assume you made the mistake Lissa, since it does look like it was our error - a 3 minute subtraction difference with the sunrise times. In refiguring it we got the same answer as Michelle - 58 degrees and 50 minutes.

We have been doing this independently, and just to throw another monkey wrench into the mix...we got 58 degrees 50 minutes for #7.

DOH! Yes, that's what Kate got too--I typed it in wrong. Could I be confusing matters more???
OK, looks like we're all on the same page now, at least! LOL! This is another reason it's great to be doing this as part of a group.

Well, except that 58 degrees 50 minutes and 58.5 degrees are not the same thing. Technically, 58.5 degrees would be 58 degrees 30 minutes, not 50 minutes, if we are trying to be precise.

This is not my day for typing. Yes, what Kate got was 58.5 degrees (or 58 deg 30 min). I did enter it correctly on the Longitude Sticky page, at least!

And that is what I meant to type 58.5 (knew it was 30 minutes), but was in a hurry to correct my stupid error. I am just not doing a good job on our mystery class for everyone. I think I need a nap!

I just have to say that we are having SO much fun with this! Ds is trying to figure out all 10 of the locations and is having a great time. He spent the better part of the afternoon putting numbered tacks into our world map for his guesses. The only thing frustrating him is the amount of time it takes to look up sunrise times in order to narrow the all the latitudes. We have a few that we are pretty sure about, but some are really stumping us, especially number 10, for some reason.
We can't wait until we can start sharing guesses!

We are having a great time as well. What an exciting way to learn geography (maybe we could teach a few things to a certaingeography teacher here in Denver )!
We've been on the go a lot but dc want to try to figure out the other 9.....so we'll try to have it done by Mon....the equinox!

Since it sounds like everyone is really into this and anxious to start guessing -- should we set next Wednesday (2 days after the equinox) as the day to start guessing? My comment about waiting was in case anyone was struggling with this or confused....

Now I'm not giving away the name yet, technically. But I couldn't wait for you to see this Painted Church in our Mystery Class's town.
