Now, do not start yet.....not till AFTER New Year's. 
I just wanted to get it ready before I got too busy. 
Here is my "blurb"......
Time to start for 2010!
We will keep a list of all of the books we read this year. Everytime you finish a book.........you just post it here.
If it is a duplicate of a previous book mentioned.........list it anyway.
Consider it a survey of Catholic homeschool moms' reading choices.
Let's capitalize the titles, and always remember the author! If you want, take the time to put the title in color........so it can catch our eye.
Be prepared to talk about your book choices sometimes!

Okay, I'm almost embarrassed to admit it, but I'm about to finish Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer tonight. So, I read the first two books in the Twilight series, but I wasn't really impressed, but I admit I wanted to find out what how it ended. So, I started reading Breaking Dawn and it wasn't until I was in the middle of it that realized that Breaking Dawn is the 4th book and not the 3rd. I didn't seem to be missing any of the story and I realized that Meyer must be way too wordy if it's no big deal that I missed the 3rd installment.
I'm currently reading The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie and The Lost Daughters of China. I'll report back later on those.

Ooh, I love all the Teys, but that is my favorite of all. I just love the atmosphere of that one and was thinking of re-reading it. If you haven't read Brat Farrar by Tey, please do.

I put down Up the Chimney Down by Joan Aiken last night after getting 80% through it. Some of the stories were charming, but some were sinister, and I just didn't think the book needed any more of my time. I haven't yet decided if I like this author or not yet.
I am trying to catch up on all the kids book that we have in the classroom. So many used book sales, etc., and I want to cull the duds (or sinister ones).

Leap into Darkness by Leo Bretholz and Inherit the Truth by Anita Lasker-Wallfisch. Both stories by Holocaust Survivors telling about how they managed to stay alive! Fascinating, but kind of heavy going. I need to find something fluffier for my next book!

I know what you mean. I just can't take too much depressing reading during winter. I was on a Vietnam jag last winter and it just didn't mix well with that seasonal affect thing.

I just brought home a few books by Anna Quindlen- her non-fiction, that is. How is it that I've never read her before???
Here's what's on the nightstand (sorry- no time to link tonight):
Loud and Clear (the audio book to listen to while I paint my house)
How Reading Changed My Life
A Short Guide to a Happy Life (really it's just one essay- I read it in one short sitting)
So far, so good. Any other Quindlen recommendations?
I've also picked up
The Not So Big Life by Sarah Susanka, but I haven't even cracked it yet.

I haven't. I thought that I ordered it (through the library), but it turns out what I ordered was Creating the Not So Big House. Pretty inspiring, still- lots of blueprints and ideas. Now that I look at it a little more closely, The Not So Big Life looks pretty new-agey. Hmmmm... I'll weigh in after I've read a bit of it.
(And as a side note- wow! I'm finding Anna Quindlen's essays very hit-or-miss. Some of them I find myself giggling and sighing and moaning in agreement-- but so many of them seem very... what's the word I'm looking for? Heavy on relativism? Or modernism? Not sure. Anyway, I'm going to keep reading, because I'm a sucker for good writing, regardless of whether I agree with the content or not-- and good writing it certainly is...)

BIG heads up on this one. I'm about halfway through, and I think that's about as far as I need to go. I didn't really know much of anything about Quindlen before picking this up. Turns out she has pretty awful things to say about the Catholic Church and the pro-life movement. I'm returning it-- and I wanted to make sure to give other readers a heads up.

Just finished Rome Sweet Homeby the Hahns.
Lovely book. As a convert, what struck me most was the way they handled the emotional struggle and hurt within their family, which I was surprised to read about. I've enjoyed all I've read by the Hahns.

As one who always has more that one book going, I'm reading Dickens as well (officially started before the new year- *well* before the new year) and can definitely relate to this

I've just finished Created to be his helpmeet by Debi Pearl. It definitely has a protestant flavor but I found a lot of things to agree with in it too.
I'm almost halfway through Tale of Two Cities by Dickens (much quicker than Little Dorrit or Great Expectations for example)
I have about 30 min to go listening to The Scarlet Pimpernel, one of my favorite re-reads, and then will get back into Hardy's Return of the Native on audio, which if I'm being honest, I only got b/c it's narrated by Alan Rickman  Love that voice! I'm assuaging my conscience with the idea that it's a classic so I should read it anyway

I went through the 2009 list and wrote down many of the books you all recommended, so I'll be a year behind you all, but I'm reading as fast as I can.
I finished In This House of Brede, LOVED IT! I have to admit, I tried this before when everyone was talking about it, and just could not get into it, but Jan 2010 was just the right time for me to read it.
I also read Erak's Ransom, the newest book in the Ranger's Apprentice series....I did let ds12 read it first.
Now I am reading Katherine off the 2009 list.
I hope to try some Dickens this year also. I purchased the Jim Weiss Tale of Two Cities at the NJ Homeschool Conference and listened to it on the way home, now I want to read the book.
I am looking forward to a year of good books thanks to all of you!

I am 3/4 through Anna Karenina. I have liked it so far, but now I'm just trying to finish it. I'm finding very little to like about any of the characters especially Anna. A long book needs likeable characters like David Copperfield - LOVED IT! Tale of Two Cities was good, but like Anna the politics was a little difficult to get through.

I just finished The Gift of an Ordinary Day by Katrina Kenison. If you liked Mitten Strings for God, you'll enjoy this one too. I blogged about it today.

The other day I read my first Rumer Godden book: The Kitchen Madonna. A great introduction to her work!
This morning I finished The Sermons of St. Francis de Sales for Advent and Christmas- a fabulous collection of sermons published by TAN. Yes, it was my Advent reading , but the last homily was on the wedding feast at Cana - so really it coincided nicely with this past Sunday's Gospel . This was a wonderful little collection of homilies and he provided me with much food for thought during the Advent and Christmas seasons... it was a nice companion during the time of preparation and celebration. Looking forward to reading his Lenten homilies and collection on Mary later this year (also TAN books).
