I didn't want to interrupt the other thread on Advent wreaths, but has anyone ever suspended an Advent Wreath from the ceiling? How did you do it? Did you prefer it that way? How did you hang it?

Never did it, and have no idea how to, but boy! wouldn't that be spectacular? Can't wait to see others' ideas on this.

Not the ceiling, but I have suspended ours from our chandelier in the past...with string/yarn/ribbon. It was VERY convenient! No, real candles, though...faux ones made out of cardstock.

I was thinking with candles, I read that the von Trapps had a Advent wreath suspended from the ceiling, we have 10ft ceilings and I thought it would be nice to have it up and out of the way at the same time giving the house a very festive look.
Anybody?!

I would think that you could suspend it with fishing wire.... Let me think about it????

I think you can buy the chain you would use to suspend a light fixture at a home center warehouse or hardware store. Then you could possibly wrap garland of some sort in and around the chain link.

The coolest part to my imagination, especially with high ceilings, would be owning one of those lighters like altar servers use in church!

My mother has her wreath suspended from the ceiling and uses real candles. (She said that's how it was done during her childhood in Germany -- real candles on the Christmas tree, too)
It's held up with ribbons, but I'd have to ask if she has something hidden under the ribbon for extra support. The candles are only lit when she's able to keep an eye on the wreath.

I've been pondering this since my last post, and I would think that if you put a screw eye and strung two ribbons through that would meet to tie under the wreath, it would be strong enough. I'm thinking it would work to be suspended over the table, and since we usually light it during dinner, keeping an eye on it wouldn't be an issue. Horizontal surface space is a premium here, and things often get a bit cramped come Christmas. Thanks for suggestion this!

Buy a wreath and tie it to the ribbons? Maybe four beautiful ribbons, 3 purple, 1 rose? This is getting my mind rolling now...

3 ribbons would be better balanced? If you want to get fancy.. a couple of hooks or eyes.. one where you want it to hang from and one on the wall and something to attach an end to.. and you could not only string it up.. you could raise and lower it.. think about how plant holders are set up with the multiple strands coming together a bit above the plant.

You mean so that there were 6 pieces around the wreath instead of just one piece of ribbon between each candle?

no.. actually I have a headache and at first thought someone was saying only to tie ribbon to the wreath in 2 places not four  so I was thinking 3 would be a lot more stable

Don't forget the bucket of water in the corner of the room!!  Seriously, in Germany we always have a water bucket near the Christmas tree with candles - just in case. We have never had to use it, thank God!
The advent wreath will be drier than a Christmas tree because it is not standing in water, so take precautions.
I think it is a lovely idea and would do it myself if we had higher ceilings. Go for it , Maddie!

I have been searching for a picture because I seem to remember a member here at one time doing that and linking to a blog - but I can't find it. Oh well. It's done pretty regularly at churches. The church we belonged to many years ago had a beautiful suspended wreath - very large. I've seen some for lovely brass ones for sale at church supply stores as well - though they seem like ones meant for churches - the cost is  $1200 though!
It seems one important thing to do is really work to suspend it level - since even a slight tilt or angle will increase drip from candles.

I was just going to say -- I've been thinking about this for a couple of years now but have not implemented it: I keep thinking back to Tasha Tudor's book! But we have a chandelier, and I don't know how to *incorporate* the wreath with the chandelier. The chandelier has hooklike things under the lights -- maybe I'll hang the ribbons from those -- and it will have to be a smaller wreath than I was originally thinking of. I'll post if we do this.
