I am bawling my eyes out! I just read about Nicole this morning. I am so sorry for her family's loss. I can't imagine their pain.
Is there anything we can do for them? Do they have a fund set up or anything?
Blessings,
Krisann

There is so much I wanted to share with you after Nicole's funeral. But every time I sat to write, words evaded me. I've had a chance to talk with a few of you and I'm so grateful for your comfort.
It was very obvious that Nicole planned her funeral. I could hear echoes of our conversations. During the intercessory prayers, we prayed that every child who had ever lost a mother would find the solace of the Blessed Virgin. I told Nicole months ago that that was my prayer for her children. And at that point in the Mass I felt like Nicole was consoling us all.
You would have liked her. She loved nature and good books and cooking and a rousing research project. She would have loved this message board. Your prayers comforted her. I know that for certain. Please keep praying for her family. It's nearly time to archive this thread and I'll print it one last time and send it to John and ask him to save it for Jackie and Liam and Maggie.
For you, dear ladies of prayer, I want to share one more poem from Nicole's funeral:
To the living,
I am gone.
To the sorrowful,
I will never return.
To the angry,
I was cheated.
But to the happy,
I am at peace,
And to the faithful, I have never left.
I cannot be seen,
but I can be heard.
So as you stand upon a shore,
gazing at a beautiful sea,
Remember me.
As you look in awe
At a mighty forest
And its grand majesty,
Remember me.
As you look upon a flower
And admire its simplicity,
Remember me.
Remember me
in your heart,
your thoughts,
and your memories of
the times we loved,
the times we cried,
the times we fought, the times we laughed.
For if you always think of me,
I will have never gone.
Of course, you can't remember her because you didn't know her. But she touched you. She touched us all. And she reminds us still to be fully present to our families because time--no matter how much we have--is precious, indeed.

That is so beautiful, your words are perfect. She was so lucky to have you for a friend. May she rest in peace and may God and the Blessed Virgin Mary be a comfort to the family. Thank you for sharing this with us, it has touched us and we are changed by it. Our time is so precious, thank you for reminding us of that.

Thank you for sharing that, Elizabeth. It is so beautiful.
I have spent a lot of time sitting at this computer crying for the tremendous sorrow of Nicole's family, as well as the many other families who have suffered great loss.
That poem brings comfort and a call to action for me as a mother. The action of not letting a day pass without my love for each child and my husband being known. The action of putting my all into making their world secure and full of beautiful memories, memories that if we are ever faced with such sadness will sustain us and comfort us in our grief.
Thank you for sharing Nicole with us. Her family will remain in my prayers.

Elizabeth, I keep thinking of her family. From what you have said, Nicole sounds like such a wonderful woman, wife and mother. Her family must miss her terribly and I keep thinking of her young children.
I just cannot stop thinking of her family. Does anyone know if there is a novena or special prayer Zelie Martin. I just think I'd really like to pray a novena to Zelie Martin for the family that is left behind. I don't think the Martin parents have been declared Saints yet so maybe there isn't a set prayer - but just wondering. If not Zelie, then maybe St. Therese who certainly experienced the loss of her mother at a young age.

Janet,
I had a novena to Zelie Martin years ago. I'll see if I can find it.

Janet,
There is a novena to Ven. Louis and Zelie.
Our prayers continue for Nicole's family.

BTW, Elizabeth, how is Nicole's family doing? Sometimes it hits hardest a few months after, when folks have stopped making meals, offering to help and all of a sudden you're a widow/widower with kids and you feel lost .....
