Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Mary Ellen,

How wonderful for you!!!

My kids always pray for twins when they find out I'm expecting...it's cause I always say that if I have twins, they can name them because I'll be too tired to do that part! They are always disappointed when I come home and say it's JUST one baby!

What a double blessing for you and your family!

I've congratulated you by telephone, but I wanted to go on the written record (just in case you print out this thread for your dual darlings' baby book!)

I am so thrilled for you! God bless those two new sweeties!

Love, Alice

That was funny. He was not with me at the appointment. I had no idea that anything unusual would happen. It was my first OB visit for this pregnancy and since I had a miscarriage last time the doctor, very kindly, asked if I would like to have an internal sono right then to relieve my mind a little. When the lady flipped the screen on she had this funny look on her face and my heart sunk for a minute. THen she asked "how many children do you have?" I said "five." and she says, "no, you have seven." She swung the screen around for me to see and I was floored.

When I got out of the office I called Dave right away. He asked how everything was and if the baby was ok. I said yes both babies were fine.

Total silence.

Then he just started to laugh. "Twins? Are you telling me twins?" When I confirmed this he just laughed and said that it was a wonderful surprise.

Then we just laughed together.

I laughed like a goofball all day.

One of the best days ever...

MaryEllen,

That story is just too priceless! You have me beaming from ear to ear just reading about your good news!

I always said I wanted twins. I married at age 33 and needed to catch up with the rest of my siblings' quota.

Tears of joy here, too, Mary Ellen!

I am soooooooo jealous!!!!!

For some reason, I just really thought I had twins this time around...but no.....the sad thing is I have been asked more than once if I am having twins because my belly is a little large this time around

I have a twin brother and it was/is great!

I will be praying for you and babies!!!

We found this is a read aloud book, and I had to post it for all the times mothers of identicals are asked, "Are you sure that the one named 'X' is the same one you named that to begin with?"

The Twins

In form and feature, face and limb,
I grew so like my brother,
That folks got taking me for him,
And each for one another.

It puzzled all our kith and kin,
It reached an awful pitch;
For one of us was born a twin,
Yet not a soul knew which.

One day (to make the matter worse),
Before our names were fixed,
As we were being wash'd by nurse
We got completely mixed;

And thus, you see, by Fate's decree,
(Or rather nurse's whim),
My brother John got christened me,
And I got christened him.

This fatal likeness even dogg'd
My footsteps when at school,
And I was always getting flogg'd,
For John turned out a fool.

I put this question hopelessly
To every one I knew --
What would you do, if you were me,
To prove that you were you?

Our close resemblance turned the tide
Of my domestic life;
For somehow my intended bride
Became my brother's wife.

In short, year after year the same
Absurd mistakes went on;
And when I died -- the neighbors came
And buried brother John!

Mary Ellen,
I haven't been a member here for very long, but wanted to say congratulations! I had goosebumps after reading your first post & got teary-eyed with your story of how you told your DH!

God bless you all!

Thank you Angela. I still get a little weepy about the whole thing.

My belly popped out this weekend so at 11 weeks I am officially showing.

I love the memories this thread brings back. My husband was gone when I found out so he found out through a chaplain who called his commanding officer who had a dry sense of humor. The CO passed Bill in the hall and said, "Congratulations, you're having twins." Bill didn't believe it until he was able to get a hold of me by phone a few days later.

What happy, happy news! We are so excited for you!

My parents found out they were having twins when my brothers were delivered so it was a bit of a shock. Since there are twins on both sides, we've always had a secret hope - but no such blessing even though dh insisted he heard 2 heartbeats on his sound level meter device for listening in (obviously he heard wrong).
