Oh, Elizabeth, how beautiful!
Your lovely photos reminded me of a Juan Diego paper doll project we created three years ago. I think I might combine your lapbook page layout with this doll to make our pages. Thanks for the great idea!

What a terrific idea. You've now got me thinking off on a rabbit trail as well.
You could also do a notebook on the different months of the year.
ie. November the month of the Holy Souls, May the month of Mary, June the month of the Sacred Heart etc. I'm showing my ignorance here as I don't remember them off by heart I'm sure many of you do. However you get the idea.

Just wanted to throw this in. I don't think it's been mentioned already, but here's a nice idea for Our Lady of Fatima: http://www.mariancastle.blogspot.com/
I love all of these wonderful ideas! Now I'm struggling with when we will use them. I have to make some time in my day for notebooks such as this. I know my dd would love it.

Elizabeth and Alice,
Your dc projects are absolutely beautiful - and your descriptions of your home and schooling are inspiring. I must say, I'd love to do something like this - but need to ask - are you or your dc particularly talented or craftsy? I have one dd who would run with the ideas. I'm afraid what the rest of us would do. We cannot even draw a straight line with a ruler - and many are still struggling with scissors. How did you get to the point where you could put together such beautiful ideas?
Will this post be around so we could try something like this in the summer when stress is less?
Has anyone done a Confirmation notebook? Guess that would be a different thread.
Janet

Dear Janet,
Many thanks for putting me in the same category as Elizabeth--I don't think I measure up, but I'm grateful just the same!
No, I don't think all of our family is particularly talented in the crafts department, but we really enjoy them and like to dig in to a project. (I made the sample Juan Diego above--the ones the kids made three years ago were not quite so exact.) One of my daughters couldn't draw a thing until the age of six, and then suddenly she could draw quite well. You just never know with kids!
For me, ideas come in spurts. Sometimes I'll go a long stretch without much inspiration (and times like these I rely completely on the great ideas of others, like Elizabeth's Blessed Mother notebook). Other times, I'll have too many ideas to actually accomplish them all (or even most of them). It's all cyclical, I guess.
Do not worry about drawing for a project like this. I would just use Holy Cards, stickers, and collage materials or coloring pages if some of the children aren't as interested in drawing. It doesn't have to be beautiful or perfect. It could be a mishmash, but if the children are learning and loving it, that's worth so much.
You could definitely hold on until summer for this (this thread will be in the Living Faith archives), but sometimes it's fun to just dive right in while everyone else is working on a project. The momentum of others and having a place to compare notes on a nightly or weekly basis is one of the great benefits to a forum like this. Maybe you could do a Flylady--"You are not behind, just jump in where we are now"!
Once again, Janet, thank you very much for your kind words.

When I originally posted, I didn't put the correct link to our Fatima Notebook. (I didn't know how to link to a post)
So here is the link directly to the project:

My daughter found this very humorous since she thinks Alice is the perfect mother and the master craftsmen. I think the quote was "Same category for what???" .
This project has really slipped since this pregnancy began. Now I'm trying to decide what to do for May and what to save for later. I know we'll go to the Basilica for Christmas, so maybe we'll table the notebooks until fall and then pick them up again and try to finish before Christmas. And then we'll do those ornament in the Our Lady of Guadalupe thread and make a Mary tree right now. I thought about saving those for advent, but a Jesse tree, a Mary tree and a Christmas tree might be a bit much. OTOH, Mary Beth wants to do all the crafts Alice has posted lately...

Oh I am getting such great ideas from you ladies! I can't wait to work on the Marian Notebook with my children. Thanks Alice and Elizabeth for posting photos. It helps me a lot to visualize projects otherwise I feel overwhelmed trying to do them when I don't know what they look like.
(I am one of those students in Tomie dePaola's Art Lesson book who just obediently followed the teacher's directions... and thus lost all ingenuity and creativity of my own. Can't seem to get it back even in adulthood. )

I have Gunther craft envy here as well. I don't know how Alice does it. Five weeks away from giving birth and she's as crafty as ever. I have about 12 weeks to go and all I want to do is nap.
I was thinking of making the Mary Notebook an ongoing project, a page here and there as we have time. That way I don't feel pressured to finish by any particular day. There are so many images, apparitions and titles to investigate.

Wow! What beautiful ideas you all have! and here I am trying to re-invent the wheel...
we are getting geared up for a Marian lapbook that we want to run from May to August 15th. We are TRYING to get ready to plant our Mary garden and we thought we would tie that in with our lapbooks.
We have a nice tradition in our parrish where we bring flowers from our gardens to church on August 15th. They are blessed there then we place them on our homes- which for us would be at a special Marian prayer area we specially decorate for the occasion.
I am sooo psyched...now I have even MORE ideas from you....woah! I just got a digital camera hand me down from my sil...once I figure out how it works I hope we can share our work with you...I will at least post the pics on my blog...
Gunther craft envy...rofl...you are ALL so very creative! What a blessing to know all of you!!

Brilliant! Donna has just extended this Marian frenzy from May through August! Now, maybe I can actually do it ALL! Or hey, how about September 8th?

Yea! That'll work.
And, if all else fails, go through the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on Dec. 8th.
No one should feel like they've failed our Lord and our Lady...or our children, for that matter.

I think the times when we are enjoying our gardens is the best time to do this project...when we weed it is just like a meditation of our spiritual life and our relationship with Our Lady...make the project a prayer!!...pull out them weeds ladies!! ha ha
but seriously...this CAN go on and on! I know I want to keep it simple...and keep adding on...I am afraid if I take on too much I won't finish...and I REALLY want to finish THIS project

When I was searching for the Marian Image that Rebecca was requesting, I came across some other Polish madonna images that I thought would be nice, since Elizabeth was featuring the Polish art for a bit.
