Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Jenn, Mary, Angel and Jen~ Thanks so much for listing these books! That helps a lot. I clicked around a bit tonight, and will some more this week too. THANK YOU!

I'm glad you mentioned this....I've been slowly making my way through this book for the past couple months, and hadn't looked at the resources in the back which is usually the first thing I do with a book like that.

I'm slowly looking through these links, haven't clicked on each of them yet, but thought I'd ask about these.

Has anyone tried any of these?

Easy Watercolor Techniques (DVD)

Complete Guide to Watercolor (DK book)

So far this one looks the best to me??

Painting with Watercolor, Pen and Ink

This one looks like it might be good too??

Watercolor Workbook: Complete Course in 10 Lessons

And one final question from me. :) Where do you all buy your watercolor paper for the best deal??

Thanks for this thread, these links are excellent!!

I had a peek at this book at B&N the other day. It's very big, and covers practically everything. But I think it's too much for what I want. I want to inspire my son to pick up the brush and paint -- not be overwhelemed by the "technique". I think it's definitely for teens/adults.

Also, there are several n*de portrayals throughout the book. I understand that's part of art, but I thought I'd give a heads-up.

I also thought I'd mention Lissa's post about her art posts. I've found her watercolor posts (and the links to other bloggers) very helpful, practical, and encouraging.

Bumping this thread up, because I was wandering around Harmony Art Mom and saw she has some marvelous Watercolor basic instructions in her sidebar. That coupled with the DVD above is great for the hands-on learning.

I always like having a few "how-to" books around though, that can inspire and motivate the child on their own. I do think John Hawkinson books are very inspiring on combining the nature study and journal with other art media.

I do have the DVD and we enjoyed it quite thoroughly. There are no bells or whistles; it's simply done, but great stuff. Of course, we're not as artsy as Kimberlee's family is, so our application is much, much simpler.
