Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Wow, those hawk pictures are amazing. I must learn to take pictures or to at least figure out the settings on my camera.

Can I ask what camera? Ours just bit it and we are in the market for something and I'm terrible at figuring this stuff out. I totally need recommendations.

Beautiful! Hawks are kind of an obsession with me -- I could watch them for hours.

Peace,
Nancy

Kacky-

I apologize for not seeing your response sooner. I have a Canon Digital Rebel, but it's an older model (6 MP), and I was using a 75-300mm telephoto lens when I took those pics.

I wish I could have captured a picture, but it happened so fast - while driving down my street in happy suburbia, I saw a hawk dive at another small bird and capture it in midair! There was an explosion of feathers. It was too cool.

We also have what looks to be a young-ish red fox who has taken up residence in the trees behind our house. We nicknamed him Scratchy because he doesn't look too healthy - he just sits in our yard looking hungry, tail hairless, scratching! (this I do have a picture of, but unfortunately my camera isn't talking to my computer - I think we have run out of space! Hopefully I can come back and edit later )

These were taken from my front porch about an hour and a half ago (5:00 pm central). The tornado formed just south of us and we were able to watch its formation. Unsettling...and yet awesome! We're fine, but we haven't yet heard damage reports or size of the tornado.

Amazing!

I know, Nancy!!! Turns out it was just a few miles from us...and our vantage point up here on the hill afforded a great view...but yikes! It's actually very early in the season for us to be having tornadoes.

I know...in fact my son now says we lied to him and he cant believe us because we have told him "this" (winter) is not tornado season. I shouldn't have shown my family the pictures . But it was cool - especially having seen that view ourselves .

Oh no! Now your little fella won't ever want to come back! We do have some crazy weather here!

And...not that I've observed a whole lot of tornadoes...but I didn't realize that while you might see the wall cloud with the formation of the funnel, you don't have to *see* the funnel on the ground for it to *BE* on the ground. In at least the last 3 pictures above the tornado was on the ground. We could see the sparks and arching electricity from transformers and power lines snapping. I assumed we would see the funnel on the ground because of debris, but not necessarily. Very interesting.

Wow. Not something you really want to see from your porch, though. Guess I ought to call my parents and see how they fared in those storms... although hopefully no news is good news...
