Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Is anyone else like me. . .a craft dunce? I want so much this year to do arts and crafts with my little ones who would absolutely LOVE it. I just NEVER know what to do or easily talk myself out of it .

Would any of you be interested in signing up to suggest a craft or simple art project?

Here's what I am thinking and if there is already something like this going on let me know:

A different mother each week will suggest an easy craft with readily available materials targeted for preschool/early elementary grades on Monday. You could do it on whatever day during the week you'd like. I would do it on a Friday because it would give me the whole week to get the materials and energize myself up for it!

We would sign up in advance for a week, much like Elizabeth does for the blog carnivals.

I would organize it and post the directions each week on my blog. . .or link yours. . .or feature it here on the forum.

KEEP IT SIMPLE and EASY!!

What do you think?

I'd be up for it. It's a great idea.

This is a great idea. We're planning a "craft camp at home" next week because dd is too "advanced" in grade level to attend our church's VBS, even though she's the right age in years . Now I have an even better reason to try out some new ideas.

I would love that. I'm a little like you--love crafts but don't get around to actually doing them. This might give me a nudge to complete something.

Me too, and a ds5, but their mother is craft-challenged!

If we do this -- and I think we should (and I'll offer to organize it at the end of July or beginning of August), we need to make sure we keep it accessible for boys and girls, if that's ok. I want my boys to be just as crafty/imaginative as my girls ... and historically, many of the crafts were originally done by the men .... just my opinion!

I'd have an 8.5 boy, 7.5 girl and very anxious almost 5 boy wanting to "play" too....

ETA -- Sorry Sarah, I didn't see that you volunteered to "moderate"; great! Should we/could we tie it to the artist/music study or a picture book or liturgical year or something.... at least to get started so we have some direction

I'd love to get involved in this as well. I have an almost 4ds, soon to be 3ds, and then there's the baby, but he won't be participating on his own this year .

Mary, if you want to organize it I have no attachment at all to the position of moderator, especially with a new baby in the house. . .however, I will certainly do it if you don't want to since it was my idea. If you are excited about doing it then its yours. . .

Great point for the BOYS.

My kids are-

boy 11 (he would not be excited about participation, at least wouldn't ACT like it! )

boy 8.5
boy 6
girl 4
boy 2(almost)
boy 3 weeks

However, all my kids are also craft challenged like me and would love even VERY simple crafts targeted for young ones.

I vote for keeping it simple and if people WANT to tie it into a liturgical theme then great. Should we just let each Mom decide? Some Mom's might have better resources/ideas than others. My week, ladies, will be embarrasingly simple .

Sarah, please add me. I could really use some one else's expertise in the craft area. I'm sure I could find at least 1 thing somewhere to contribute as well.

I have:
9 y.o. girl - she'd probably participate
7 y.o. girl - yes, yes, yes!
5 y.o. girl - yes,yes, yes!
3 y.o. boy - maybe...still kind of craft challenged....he'll "help" Mom!
1 y.o. boy - I think we'll work during his nap!

Ohhh...this sounds so great...looking forward to participating.

Sarah, I have a question. On your blog you say, Keep it simple and aim for readily available materials. Remember, most of us in this club are "craft challenged." Do you mean readily available that most folks would likely have in the house already, or things that are pretty standard in general craft or discount stores for purchase? Since I do have a pretty well stocked craft supply stash I tend to take it for granted.

Oh, and is it supposed to be very specifically a "craft" or can it be more an art project? I tend to put "arts and crafts" together but want to clarify. Thanks.

Well, Mary, I'll leave that up to every to decide.

I personally think we could mix arts and crafts, but keep in mind that if its too hard or takes some art expertise then it may not happen in most homes, if they are homes like mine .

Also, "readily available" materials could mean ones you have lying around the house OR could easily pick up in most areas. If we have to go to special stores. . . again, it may not happen.

I guess that might sound lame for many people, but I started this for people like me who are afraid or who never do crafts with their kids because we have used the excuse that it was too complicated, we don't have the right materials, and we don't know WHAT to do.

Obviously, however, everyone is welcome whether you've never done a craft or you are the craft queen!

I also thought that the feeling that we are all doing this together helps with motivation. As with the blog carnivals and other aspects of the forum, the thought of us all on the "same page" keeps us going.

Furthermore, if we get inspired to take pictures of the completed craft or it being made, we could share them. My kids would like to see other kids working on the same idea.

Anyway. . .feel free to add your opinions. I'm not really great at organizing and leading. . .
