Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Talk???! Did someone just volunteer me for a talk??!! What happened to the simple tea I was to ORGANIZE? Don't let Colleen fool you, Cay. We aren't all as "energetic" as she is.

Cay Gibson Natalia, this is getting ridiculous that we haven't gotten together yet. My parents have a camp now further north Louisiana. We'll have to plan a tete-a-tete.

I just checked in on the site after being absent for soooo long. Cay and I got a chance to meet 4 Real in Kansas City last month, although not nearly enough time to chat. I have to be in Houston for a protestant homeschool conference the following weekend (Thur-Sat) so I may see if I can come to LA sort of "on my way."

Not to over burden the schedule but the weekend ends at 1 PM Sunday and a friend of mine jsut emailed this to me:

*****

Free admission at Vermilionville for Acadian Culture Day

LAFAYETTE --- Vermilionville will celebrate this area's rich Cajun heritage for Acadian Culture Day, set for Sunday, August 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Vermilionville, 300 Fisher Road.

Admission is free on this day, which promotes Cajun history, language, music, food, and dance. The program is designed to allow guests to "two-step" back in time and experience almost every aspect of Cajun culture from 1765 to present.

Jesse Legé & The Southern Ramblers will play Cajun music in the morning and Jason Frey & Lagniappe will play in the afternoon. In between the two performances Carol and Gerald Trahan will lead the crowd in Cajun dance lessons. An authentic Cajun buffet of smothered steak, corn macque choux, smothered okra, white beans and sausage, cornbread and peach cobbler will be available for purchase from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In association with Louisiana Folk Roots, Vermilionville's historic village will abound with hands-on activities to help provide guests of all ages with a better understanding of the lives led by Cajun settlers. Children will be able to make rag dolls, bamboo fishing poles and jewelry that they can take home (nominal fee). Visitors can participate in quilting, write with quill & ink pens, play old-time games and ride on a hand-drawn ferry. Additionally, artisans will give demonstrations and cultural advocates will give presentations on local topics. The artisans for this day will be funded in part by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the Acadiana Arts Council.

Since language is an integral part of the Cajun experience, Cajun French speakers " both fluent and those still learning " will have plenty of opportunities to speak the language on Acadian Culture Day. In morning, there will be French lessons and songs sung in French, and in the afternoon guests can participate in French-only conversations at the Table Français set up in the glassed-in back porch of Vermilionville's restaurant.

Admission to this event is free. For more information, call 337-233-4077 or visit www.vermilionville.org

My husband is going to kill me but I can't allow for us to be passing through Lafayette headed home and not stop and enjoy a couple of hours of this.

Hey! we're hsers! and it's FREE!

Btw, the location for the conference has been moved to St. Mary Magdalen's beautiful church. Mass on Sunday will be held there as well.

If you guys want copies of Juanita and Our Lady of the Angels, let me know. I can get you as many as you need and can send them to Cay in time for the conference. I just need to cover my cost and the cost of shipping, so the price would be $6.00 each.
Sounds like a lot of fun!!

Looks like I'm not going to be able to make it . My schedule is filling up fast and I can't justify "hanging around" the days between this meeting and the convention in Houston. Also, my oldest is in Lafayette right now on a mission trip and he'd have to practically come home and turn around and go back, which I know he'll balk at! Have a great time and hopefully I can make it another time.

God bless,
Katie

Shucks, Katie...I was hoping to get some fun boy stuff while you were here. Oh well, the website it is! Maybe next year (assuming this little gathering comes about again) we'll have more notice and time to plan! Thanks for trying.
