Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've been posting merrily away without having introduced myself. Better late than never

I'm Kathryn, from Leighton Buzzard in England. I just stretched my computer skills by putting a picture of the fourteenth century Anglican Church here into my avatar (I hope!). My two daughters, Rachel (10 in 2 weeks) and Hannah (6) have always been homeschooled. I discovered Charlotte Mason when they were little, and have been a member of the CCM list virtually since it started. Over the years we have used Sonlight off and on, with CM tweaks. We are now using Mater Amabilis, the Catholic CM curriculum I am co-authoring with Michele Quigley. A number of Sonlight books still manage to creep in, particularly for my 10yo who can only take history in small doses, disguised as historical fiction.

My interests are history, children's literature (particularly history and historical fiction), reading and music. I also like cross stitching and scrapbooking, though don't do as much as I would like. My 10yo dd loves dance, music and sport. My 6yo also likes to dance, has musical ambitions, and has recently decided she loves horses (an interest I'm none too keen to encourage as I am allergic to them!). As a family we are going through a musical phase. My 10yo plays piano and recorder, has just started learning trumpet and is dabbling with an oboe; I play violin, flute, piano, organ and guitar; my 6yo is just starting violin, and also wants to play recorder, flute and piano. Dh plays nothing, but listens dutifully!

Thank you to everyone who set up this message board. I'm so impressed with how easy it is to use!

Hello! I am so excited to have found this site today, it is my new favorite site! Found it via the Literature Alive group.

I have three children, Justin (6), Lauren (4) and Bridget (1). I've been married for almost 13 years. We pretty much decided to homeschool when my oldest was still a baby so I've bought and researched lots of curriculum, only recently becoming convicted to use mostly Catholic materials when possible. We are using the Catholic Heritage Curriculum lesson plans as a backbone and adding our own stuff to that as well as some Seton workbooks. We also do Five in a Row on and off, unit studies, and almost CONSTANT reading! My children began reading very early and so learn a lot on their own with their own free reading time.

Thank you for this group!

-Dawn

Hi all! My name is X-Hail (pronounced shy-eel) Griswold. I've been married to my wonderful husband Mark for 7 years. We are both Steubenville grads, I taught religion for 5 yrs at an all s high school before our oldest son was born. Mark has worked in education and ministry for the past 15 yrs and is presently the full time youth minister at St. Norbert's our parish here in Paoli. We have 3 wonderful children, Robby is 6, Patrick is 3 (will be 4 on March,11), and Abigail is 19 months. We live in Paoli, PA about 30 minutes outside of Philadelphia and are adjusting to the North as we are transplants from the South.

We are in the process of transitioning from "school at home" to "real learning". Right now Robby is enrolled in a virtual charter school and we've been using William Bennett's k12 curr.. We are pulling out of the VA at the end of this year. I'm so excited to move on and begin our new adventure I can hardly stand it, just a little longer now! :c) I am a little concerned because we'll have to start reporting to the state next yr. even though he'll only be 7 because he has been enrolled in a charter school, even though he's never set foot in any school building. I'm sure it'll be just fine. I look forward to getting to know all of you and learning from all of you! By the way, I recently finished reading "Real Learning" and it was amazing! I'm about to start reading it for the second time! Great job Elizabeth and all of you who helped and contributed.

God Bless,

X-Hail

Hello Everyone,
I am here from Rabbit Trails/CCM groups. My name is Cassandra and I have been married to my high school sweetheart Jeremy for 12 years. We have 5 sweet children. Our recent addition, Baby Abigail, arrived February 19. We homeschool our three older children Hannah, Cotter, and Jake who are in grades 5, 4, and 3. Bannon is just 16 months and he spends his time getting loved upon by all of us. I have read U]Real Learning (and read through piecemeal now as well) and bought my best friend a copy for Christmas which she LOVES! My hobbies are singing and playing guitar, reading, baking, and a newfound interest scrapbooking.
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself! Blessings to all....

I'm not sure how these boards work but here it goes....

I'm Molly McGovern I live in Steubenville Ohio, Dh Bill, mom to Flannery, Siena, Francesca, Liam and Seamus. We have a very eclectic approach to home educating, some might say "relaxed unschoolers". We enjoy a vast amount of interest, including the SCA, fiber arts, books and more books. We are traditional Catholics, and we love others ideas as they give us great jumping off places.

Hi - I am Wendi and I live in NH. I am just signing on as I have been away for a couple of weeks. I know most of the names here from CatholicCM. I am very happy to see all of the discussion topics and hope to be actively participating. What a great place to share information and ideas.
Currently we homeschool our two daughters 14 and 9 and we are adopting another daughter and a son from Haiti. They are siblings. We are in the difficult "waiting" process. All is in the hands of God and we simply have to trust that they will be with us in His time. Prayers for our family and the many families waiting to bring home children are always appreciated.
God Bless, Wendi

I am Sherry Curp, wife to David and mother to Miriam (5), Elizabeth (2), and Helen (6 months). I'm "on the verge" of real homeschooling. Miriam is attending preschool 2 mornings a week for the sake of having a social life; the ones following have it built in, so that won't be necessary.

I've been attracted to the idea of homeschooling since I first learned it was possible about 20 years ago, and now I'm about to take the plunge!

My husband and I were raised Protestant, and became Catholic together a year after we were married. So we're trying to raise first-generation "cradle" Catholics whose relatives are all (devout) Protestants. Anybody else here in that particular boat?

I got Real Learning as a (requested) Christmas present this year and am working my way through it -- and about a dozen other books on the side.

I'm in southeast Ohio, in Athens.

Hello. I am new to homeschooling and to yahoo groups..so bear with me as I learn. My husband Max and I have 5 children..ages 4 to 16 years. We had two miscarriages, so until recently I feel like I was pregnant and or nursing most of my married life.   I love my faith, and love sharing this with my children! I love the Charlotte Mason philosophy, and am so glad that God led me to the Mater Amabilis curriculum and to this group! Before marriage I was a child development specialist and worked with hospitalized children and with high risk/delayed children (IPP's and stuff). I worked as a consultant for the University of Pittsburgh's
office of Child Development doing research on literacy,
curriculums, etc. for the last several years to help supplement the children's Catholic school education. However, it did not seem very catholic to me, or a very
happy environment to my kids. So here we are, now. I hope to learn and grow much with the help of all of you,
my kindrid spirits!

My name is Robin and I homeschool my four children in Ville Platte, Louisiana: G.K. is 11, Logan Grant 10, Marie Therese 4, and Elijah John almost 2. I'm not a big talker in real life or on boards just because I rarely have anything to say... But I learn so much and tonight I have a prayer request so I'm coming on board...

I'm Amy, married to a wonderful dh and mom to 3 going on 4 girls - 7, 5, 2, and due in late Spring. This is our second offical homeschooling year and I've run the gamut (sp?) of curriculum choices, mostly to see what works for my quirky oldest child. I've always come right back to living books and short lessons though, and am trying to incorporate other CM philosphies as I learn what fits our family.

I don't have any great hobbies right now, unless you call devouring curriculum catalogs and homeschooling research a hobby. I love it though! If I could make it an official hobby I would.

Hi,
I just heard about this site and look forward to try and find the time to browse through some of the posts. My name is Lynn Young. I live in North Carolina. My husband, Tim, and I have been married 13 years. We have seven boys ranging from 18mos to 12 years old. We have three babies in heaven.
We love this lifestyle. We have tried many "types" of schooling. I feel as long as our Catechism work is done and each child has had reading time (most days the problem is stopping them from reading) each day - we have succeeded. We live in a small home and the chaos is changing and challenging daily. Our home is an adventure and never boring.
I love studing our Pope's Theology of the Body and reading Divine Will writings. I enjoy photography.
I look forward to being enlightened and inspired by other parents.
Thank you to everyone for the time in sharing.

OK, I'm going to post a little intro, as I have posted to some of the other forums. My name is Kathleen, and we live in Wa. St. on a island. We have five children ages 16,13,10,7 and 4, with two in heaven. I have been homeschooling now for 12 years, and have enjoyed it even with all the ups and downs......there are way more ups!! I am thankful to Elizabeth for her Real Learning
book, which I use and the Charlotte Mason method of teaching. I have seen my children eat up learning!
Blessing to you all!

Hello!

My name is Jennifer Whitmore. I live in Austin, TX with my husband Brooks, my son Ian, my two daughters Louisa and Clara and a Baby on the way. We moved here from the midwest ten years ago and really love it.

My husband and I are both piano teachers and my husband is an organist, as well. I teach Bradley Natural Childbirth classes, enjoy cooking, gardening, reading (non fiction), and just being part of the family.

Hello! My name is Erica Sanchez, wife to Cash and mom to Emily (9.5), Grace (8), Nicolas (6), Isabella (4), and Annie (almost 2). We live and have homeschooled from the beginning in La Mesa, CA (San Diego). We have also been the Youth Ministers at our parish for the last 12 years. We came to homeschooling after I taught in public and Catholic schools (pre-marriage) and also after hearing a few beautiful talks by Steve and Karen Wood (way back when I thought homeschooling was the craziest idea in the world !! Now I think everyone should do it!!!

Funny thing - when I first came to the CCM list, I thought I couldn't handle the volume and even emailed Elizabeth to get off the list! Well, it must not have gone through ?? but I am so glad now. I have learned so much more than the book recommendations I was seeking and have laughed and cried my way through the thousands of emails since joining the group. My husband thinks I am crazy!

The new board format looks great and I'll probably always lurk, as I never feel like I have anything to contribute. LOL - I've written enough here just in this introduction!!

God bless all you beautiful wives and mothers (especially those of you who take so much time to inspire and support the rest of us) -isn't homeschooling the best!!!!

Hello,

I am a lurker and occasional poster on the FIAR forums, but am so pleased to find you all here. I was offline for a while and wondered where Tracy Q had gone...now I know!

I grew up in Wales, met dh in Austria, have been married nearly eleven years, and we have four children. Jack is 7, Tilly is 5, Anna Finn is 3, and baby Louisa is 10 months. We are currently living in Georgia (as in the former Soviet Republic - not the Peach State!). We moved here from Alaska, and boy is it nice to have a spring in March instead of May.

After a brief stint at the international school here, we are back to homeschooling and really loving it. I use FIAR, with some other unit srudies thrown in, and love to make lapbooks. My son has recently started fencing lessons and is learning Russian. The girls go to ballet (well, not the baby, yet!), and I try to throw some educational tidbits their way between the endless hours of play.

I am trying to learn Georgian, but my attempts really are shameful. I am not giving it the time or dedication it needs, and boy does it show. All those years of charades have come in handy, though. I use my precious spare time for reading, mainly, but love to get online, especially when dh is away.

I look forward to getting to "know" everyone. I have already learned a lot since I started browsing here this evening.

Hello all - I'm Sabine, living and learning in the great state of Texas. I've been married to Bill for nearly 16 years and we have six awesome kids: Samantha 15, Grace 13, Jacob 11, Evan 7, Audrey 5, and Lauri Anne 2. Our oldest went to public school for a few years but when it was time for our son to attend kindergarten, we knew it wouldn't be a good fit. The next year, the girls wanted to try homeschooling also. So here we are in our fifth year! We love to read, read, read! We also love being on the computer, listening to music, looking at pictures and paintings. Many days are spent just enjoying being outside.

God Bless,

Hello all,
I've posted already, so I'm coming over to introduce myself. I'm Angela, from Iowa, married to Victor for 15 years this summer! Mom to 5: Brianna 11, Allison 9, Susan 6, Thomas 3 and Mary 7mos.

We've always homeschooled and we're slowly coming into our own eclectic style. Life is interesting with a 3 year old who is like 3 boys wrapped up in one!

I'd love to get DSL....I think I would enjoy this forum more not worrying about tying up the phone line so much!

Nice to be here,
Angela
