I should be able to save that date if it is chosen.

It's not a great weekend for me (I have travel plans for that week) but I could be there if that date is selected.

We never go anywhere so I'm open for any date.
I have a cousin in Virgina (near DC). I'm hoping I could coordinate a visit with a conference.

The biggest thing about an August date is if you end up ordering books from a vendor, you might not get them in time to start school.
I don't know if that is really a big deal for most people, but I thought I would mention it.
August works for me.

August works for me. I'm always getting behind schedule, so if I have to start a few subjects a little bit late, it would be no big deal. My kids are used to it

I think that works for me. Will someone put a list together of area hotels, etc for those of us coming from out of town? And what Airport would we fly in to?

The closest airport is Dulles (airport code is IAD). However, Thurgood Marshall Baltimore Washington Airport (BWI) and Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) are also within driving distance.
Often, airfares to BWI are lower than to the other two airports because it's a Southwest hub. It is usually worth taking the time to research airfares to BWI as well as the other two airports. My dad's company makes all their employees fly in to BWI when they travel to the DC area because they save so much money on airfares.
Without traffic it takes around 1.5 hours to drive from BWI to the Dulles airport area (where, I'm assuming, the general location of the conference might be). With traffic, all bets are off.
Usually, the cheapest rental car rates from BWI are via Enterprise. (I have priced the rates with an AAA discount, too, and my results are the same.) All the major rental car firms have an office at BWI. If you know someone who works for a rental car company, see if you can get them to reserve you a car on a "friends and family" rate...that's about the lowest rate you'll get. The rental car employee has to set up the rental for you, though.
Gasoline here is about $2.55 per gallon right now; I would expect to pay at least that in August. Last August, prices crept up a couple of cents per week, then dropped like a stone after Labor Day weekend.
(OK, can you tell I used to work at an airport? National Airport, to be exact?)

We're looking at using Seton School (not Seton homestudy) in Manassas as a site if that helps with travel pondering. Maryan and Mary Ellen will get back to you with details.

I just saw this thread!!
Sounds great!!! August is good because there are not many conferences (if any), but most vendors are home from the summer of traveling to conferences and might not be up for another one. But who knows!! Many would jump at the chance.
That being said . . . I think a 4real conference would be more about everyone getting together to share and that would out-weigh the potential lack of vendors. And that being said . . . Hillside could be there . . . happily!!

Oh, no. Me too. We always go on vacation during the first full week in August.
You all will have to make this annual, with an earlier date next year. (Please?)

Is the Seton school in Manassas?
Um... is there any camping in the area?
(Is this a stupid question?)

Yes, Seton school is in Manassas.
Your second question is not stupid at all, Helen. There is camping at Bull Run Regional Park, home of the famous bluebells, in Centreville, the town just north of Manassas. Mapquest tells me that it is 7.71 miles and 16 min from Seton to Bull Run.
Very interesting that you should bring this up, Helen, because I've been meaning to suggest that a group of us bring our families for a camp-out (borrowing an excellent idea from our friends out West ) during the weekend of the conference. If our dh are going to be watching the kids for us while we attend, why not do it together at the campground? I think the friendly discussions we'd have around the campfire would be just as beneficial as any of the inspiring talks and workshops we'll attend (which is meant to detract absolutely NOTHING from the talks and workshops---I know they'll be fabulous!). Anyway, just a thought.
They do have group camping there, but it looks like it's just for organized youth groups. Does anyone know? At this early date, I would think we could still reserve family campsites close to one another.
One of the reasons I've been hesitant to respond to this thread is that I'm waiting on the date to see if I can attend. In July, we will be somewhere between CA and OH. Right country, wrong side. What luck. In August, however, I might be able to sweet talk my dh into one more little trip before we settle in to our new home and prepare to start school.
I would love to have some of our families meet that weekend...even if it's just yours and mine at the campground, Helen...let's do it! (depending on dates)

How far is Manassas from Front Royal? I have to be at a conference in late July in Front Royal.
I do like the idea of camping with you Helen and all, that would be loads of fun!

I completely understand Diane. I've been doing a lot of wishful thinking as far as field trips/vacations go . I'm not sure that we can make this date yet either.
Also, I don't think the venue for the conference is set in stone yet. We might need a variety of suggestions.
Why don't those interested in camping PM me. (Molly, I'll pm you.) We can speak more privately like that.

A few years back, a number of families camped out at the Prince William Forest Park the weekend of the NACHE conference in Manassas. They have group sites. I didn't camp, but Elizabeth, MacBeth and Michele were among the campers, so maybe they can chime in about the experience. It is not very far from Seton School, though not as close as Bull Run.
Manassas is about 30 minutes from Front Royal, I believe. It's been awhile, so someone correct me if I am wrong!
