After some discussion on this thread, Elizabeth and I are throwing the idea around of a 4 Real conference for the summer. Someone (or several people) would need to step up and take the job of coordinator. I'd be happy to lend advice (since I have put on a a conference) and of course I would come but that's all I can offer.
We're thinking something simple. A church hall with a place for a few vendors and some workshops? On the same weekend as IHM or maybe sometime in July?
Oh and it would be in northern Virginia.
Anyone interested in doing this?

Sounds wonderful! I won't be able to make it but I'll be happy to help if you like. Anything I can do long distance?

I probably would not be able to attend, but will help in any way that I can long distance. I do have family there so it might not be a bad idea to go except my inlaws haven't had a visit from us in too long. Hmmm....

I think we should look at dates other than the IHM weekend. I'd also like to know what vendors/porducts would be most useful for y'all and what you see in the way of workshops...
Just thinking aloud here...

July is pretty wide open as far as conferences go. That's probably the best bet as far as getting other vendors there though it still might be too short of notice for some.
Lissa I actually had a moment of thinking "oh I wonder if Lissa will do a workshop"...and then "oh shucks she's on the other side of the country now!"
God bless!

I'm there. So, so there. July is OK so far (I have a few tentative visitors and plans, but nothing that can't be rearranged except taking and picking up ds from Scout camp). I don't have tons of free time until April ends, but I'll be happy to help some way or another!

I'll be there if it isn't June 30/July 1st - the National Alopecia Areata Conference will be in Arlington that weekend and my dd has been looking forward to it for months!! I can't really do both on the same day, even though they would be close.

Well...since you asked...
Vendors: I'd like to see anything Catholic as we don't have any of it here! I'd like to see CHC, Our Father's House, Illuminated Ink, Hillside Education, MODG, etc...
I'd also like to see Math-U-See, Teaching Textbooks,
Workshops/talks I'd like to attend:
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Hands-on science
Nature Study/Journaling
Living the Liturgical Year
Narration
Living history
Notebooking
home management
teaching multiple ages together...
I could go on and on!

For topics you could basically take each forum heading and run with that... i.e.
Loving the Little Ones
Living Language Arts
The More, the Merrier
(in no particular order)
YOu couldn't do all of them but some of the main ones.
That's my brilliant idea for the night.
Dh is starting another round of nightshifts so I can't sleep...time to clean!
Oh and my other suggestion would be to try to plan it like LLL area conferences happen... or like they did in the past, I should say. Have a "rock and rest" area, a "romp and roar" zone for kids, perhaps children's sessions for appropriate ages (they don't have to be elaborate),some dad-oriented sessions, snack tables, etc...
More when I think of it...

This is a great idea. We're going camping on the weekend of July 6-8, so please make it another weekend if possible. And with a new baby this year, I don't feel that I can offer major organizational help. But I'd be happy to help in other ways.

I would love to see some sort of workshop for those of us with high schoolers at home. I'd bet I'm not the only one who'd like to learn about teaching science at home (without blowing up the kitchen!) or the college planning/application process.
I think high schoolers might benefit from a short session on time management/study planning or one on study methods (e. g. note-taking, outlining, getting ready for exams). I knew several public-schooled friends in college who never learned HOW to study until they reached our huge, uncaring university.
