OH, yes!
Yesterday morning found me and the younger four standing in our pajamas under our huge oak looking up into its foliage for a who-ing owl.
Corey comes out of his place wondering what we're all doing standing there. We insist we hear an owl.
Corey listened, just shook his head, and informed us that it wasn't an owl at all. It was a morning dove.
Okay, so I'm not the best naturalist in the south.
Our weather has been crazy too., but Chelsea got a picture of the first flower of spring.

And are the sage brush greening up?

So what happened to all the water so quickly - you would have thought you'd have a frozen skating rink the next day with as much water as was there!

Oh, Cay, that is too funny, but surprisingly not uncommon. The morning dove's "coo" is often mistaken for the "whoo."

I know, particularly because the water completed circled the cottage! They could have skated around in large circles!
I forget if the water was at its peak on Friday or Saturday (I think it was Friday actually), but by the next day, the sun had warmed the ground and the water was able to drain. It was all gone but for a few piddling puddles here and there, and only those froze when the temperatures plunged again. If it hadn't been for a 24 hour warm patch, we would have had that "rink," and the kids would have loved it!
Our theory behind the flood is that our late January pipe freeze saturated the yard behind the cottage, and the ground froze, trapping the water there. Then when the torrential rains came this past week, the water had nowhere to go, collecting on the surface in a big lake. We've never had anything like that in our yard before, even on the rainiest of days!
Thanks for asking!

We are still mostly cold here especially at night, but we are free of the endless snow finally!!! No real signs of life yet, but the ground is muddy and we are seeing more of the sun. Supposed to reach 60 degrees by Monday I am really eager for Spring this year, for a change.
btw, I'm in IL.
