Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We have found our priests to be very accomodating, even when the sacraments are given in the "backwards order."

Our parish, until about two years ago, had 2nd grade FHC, and 4th grade FC. The DRE was no help.

So, we just prepared our dss on our own for FC (which we were doing anyways for FHC ) and picked a day, and took them to confession. We went first, and explained to the priest that ds would be making his FC and then they went in.

The three for whom we had to do this did great. No trauma or anything. The priests were, all, very helpful and patient.

God Bless,
Stacy in MI

Michelle,
I hear you and I wish I had the answer. We just keep praying. My brother and sil went and talked to their priest about their concerns. He told them he would do First Confession with their son, but he didn't want them to broadcast it as it would cause some "disunity" in the parish. For us, well, it was a little underhanded I guess, but we didn't mean it to be. We were visiting a family and went to church with them while we were there. They went to confession before Mass so we did too. After we were done the priest asked why my daughter had not come to confession and we explained our situation. He just said that if she knows what a sin is, he would be happy to walk her through it. So that is what we did. Now she goes whenever we do. I'm hoping things will change soon in our parish. We have a new bishop and things are slowly changing. As I said above, we just keep praying.

So what are we supposed to do with this? I find this very frustrating. If our parish is in error on this, the probablitiy is high that they are in error on other things. What do I do with that? And now that I do know they are in error on this (and it is not just my opinion that FHC makes more sense after first confession), what is my responsibility? And we have already done this wrong, so now what?

Michelle,
First of all, YOU didn't do anything wrong. You are following your pastor in obedience. And this might be the only thing your parish is doing incorrectly, so don't worry too much about that.

The advice above is good. I was going to recommend that, also. Form your child on how to make the First Confession and your child can go when you go as a family to Confession. Or find a priest you can ask.
