I just love how that sounds...svelte.... At nearly 44, I can say I am no longer there (haven't been there in a while .)

I have an October birthday, too. The tenth. I will turn forty this year. I have 7 children ages 1 1/2 to almost 16 and three little ones in heaven.
I'm weaning the baby now. Just once a day. My mother had breast cancer and I desperately want to get some screening in before I become pregnant again. They say I need to be 3 months dry before they can get good images. I'm afraid I'll be pregnant before the 3 months comes to an end. (I was scheduled for a breast MRI two years ago when I found out my youngest was on her way ). Is anyone else dealing with this?

I will say THANK YOU for this forum!!!

I will be turning 40 in May and it's hitting me hard already. I live in a town filled with college students and it's easy to think that I still "fit in" with everyone there... until I realize that, had I started early, I could be the MOTHER of some of the college students!

ugh. It makes me want to cry...

So I look forward to hearing how to "grow old gracefully"...

Can someone tell me where the time went? How is it that just yesterday I came to college?

Just peeking my head in to say Hi. I'm not quite 40 yet...five months to go. But having adult children I have to say I feel older. I'm actually looking forward to turning 40 (ask me in 5 months if I feel the same way ) and my darling husband says he thinks I am more beautiful now than when he married me. Now THAT is a man who has grown wise with age (he'll be 40 in 3 months) because he knows exactly the right thing to say!!

Bridget I can totally relate to the feeling that some of these young moms could be your daughters. My oldest will be 22 a few weeks after I turn 40 and yeah, truly, some of those young moms really COULD be my daughters!

Don't know what to expect of my 40's - though I do so hope there'll be another baby or two. I feel so greedy to write that but I can't help it. I am so very thankful for the ones I have and cherish every one...but God knows I would cherish more too!

Of course I am looking forward to grandbabies too. My sister is about to become a grandmother. She's the first and wants to be call Gigi...which suits her for sure as she's very hip . OK totally rambling now. . .time to go to bed...though Maria seems a bit too wide eyed at the moment...

I'm in! I turned 43 this past December and am happy to have a place to hang around...laugh a bit...cry a bit...this 40 thing seems pretty different to me...can't quite put my finger in it...

I'm blessed to have a dear friend who I have known since childhood. We were laughing together about this 40 thing. She said, "Remember how great we felt at 35? We were SO happy and strong, having our babies and waving them for all to see...35 and have a baby! We were on top of our game!" Then she said, "I always pictured a gradual physical decline, similar to the gradual climb to the summit...no one told me that I would feel more like I fell off of a cliff! And no one told me that I would wake up one day and not have any color in my face...or lips to speak of!" So I keep having this image of falling off a cliff into the unknown...which isn't as scary if we all hold hands and jump together together .

Growing in wisdom must have something to do with accepting changes and limitations with grace...

Love,

As a reminder of age, I'm 40 and my hip joints just kill me. I've had this problem for the last couple of years. It flares up as I do my regular walks. Does anyone else have this problem?

Have any of you tried taking Glucosamine Chondroitin tablets for joints?

I've heard a lot about it but I'm always hesitant to "take something."

Any suggestions?

Hip pain here.
I know it is related to my increased time on the treadmill and the extra weight I am asking those hips to carry.
Tylenol, new running shoes, and a day off between my workouts seems to be helping.
Keeping up with my workouts and getting rid of the extra "baggage" did help my hips in the past. (Why then you may ask, did I let it all slide? I ask that of myself every time I "groan" my way out of the car )

Jeff Galloway has some stuff about running/walking and being older--he recommends more rest between workouts. His website has some articles and advice too.

I haven't taken it myself, but the doctor did recommend it for my dad who has arthritis...it didn't really work for him though. What did work was cortesoid shots.

I don't have any hip pain, but a question. My mom is 68, and she has had one knee replacement and 2 rotator cuff surgeries. Are things like this hereditary?

I haven't had my physical yet-it is a priority for me this year. My last one was probably 5 years ago. I was wondering about a mammogram. I am 43 and have never had one But, I am still nursing dd(who is 4--don't know how that happened ) My dear doc is very supportive of extended nursing(thank goodness, never thought I'd be here)so I will be interested to hear his views about a mammogram now. I was actually not going say anything since dd is so old and I really don't know if there is any milk there. So, don't know if I am dealing with it or not but happy to have a heads up!!

Michele,
We have friends whose children call their grandmother "Hey Baby!"    That is her official name as far as they are all concerned. Our friend's mom loves it!    ...she is 60+ and all!

I have to say I am looking forward to grandkids, especially for my oldest ds, because he is SO wonderful with all his younger brothers. HE has the patience of a saint and would love a family.... now he justs needs to find a like-minded girl, something that he is finding tough at this secular university.... OK, I am rambling a bit here, too.

God Bless,

Exactly. 40 was fine(I have photos of me windsurfing on my birthday). 41 fine. 42 OK. 43, oh. my. goodness. I ache(hips? yes, pillow at night between legs helps)I don't move the way I used too. I worry moving a certain way that I will break. Now you all must know that I played sports all through high school, swam competitively from 8 years old, I did sprint triathlons in my 20's and thirties--I always have to insert sprint so people don't think I am IronWoman--in fact dh and I met at one.
It bothers me to be physically declining and I am trying to exercise more this year. Use it or lose it they say. I will check out Jeff Galloway--I need help starting exercise at 43--I don't work or recover the way I used too.
It is funny to hear someone else feels like they fell off a cliff

I guess anytime is the right time to start working on physical health (especially right now .) Does anyone remember the "Dancing Grannies" (I think they were called?) Some of those women started the dancing in their 70's, and not too healthy. They had tremendous improvement in their health. I read about them probably 10 or 15 years ago, probably Reader's Digest or something like that.

Not that any of us are in our 70's!     Just trying to be encouraging!

I am trying to add an activity a month, this year. January was stretching exercises. This month is walking (only a mile a day for my minimum- if I have time and feel like more, then I can, but just shooting for the mile.)
Next month I will add a mile.
April I am going to start light weight-lifting (I am going to have my 16yods help and show me proper positioning, etc. ) and so on....

God Bless,

Hi, just introduced myself over in fireside chat.
Turned 47 last november and happy to be able to share with everyone.

Can anyone else predict it is going to rain in a couple day from aching hips or knees.   Though I love curling up with a good book on drizzly days.

We have a treadmill, but I have been neglecting it lately. It will have to be one of my lenten promises to take better care of myself. Perhaps you all can encourage me and make sure I am doing it.

Look forward to chatting with you all and sharing the wisdom. :)

I'm lurking...five years to go before 40, but reading all these wonderful posts...I can't wait. And can I say, one of my biggest prayers right now is that the Lord will see fit to bless my with grandchildren and still let me have a toddler or two of my own around.
