FWIW - the rumor that I referenced was correct.
The National Catholic Register has an article about a priest who says Mass for the Bears and talks about the owner (who has died) and his wife as strong Catholics. Dh always gets the right Catholic sports information!
You can find the article from their website: ncregister.com

We'll put a fire in the fireplace, make some special snacks, and argue over who to root for. Living as we do in northern Indiana (pretty much between Indy and Chicago), we are torn. I grew up with in a family of Bears fans. And how often do we get a chance to see Chicago play in a Super Bowl? My husband thinks since we are Hoosiers, we *have to* root for the Colts. Oh well, I guess we won't be disappointed either way.
I like the M&M cookie idea, maybe we'll make some tomorrow...

Dh is working the golf courses at the Super Bowl. Thankfully, though, my youngest dd's godparents have invited us over for dinner. Her dh will be watching the game, and we'll be making too much noise for him to hear the commentary. They have PS2, so I probably won't see my boys the whole time we're there.

We have to root for the Colts. My dh is from Green Bay so there will be NO rooting for da Bears. We also have a daughter(and family) in Indianapolis, who was in the Butler University band...and got to play the half time for Colts home games...back when they stunk . We also saw on the news today that Brett Favre is coming back this fall !!

WooHoo!! GO COLTS!!! Like some of you have said, I am surrounded by men...I sort of resent football at times hijacking my Sundays...but, I tell you, after that playoff game a few weeks ago Colts against the Patriots...geez, I couldn't stop yelling, I was rabid!! It was so much fun. My 13 year old DS is the biggest Colts's fan...followed by his 3 other brothers. I read to him one of your statements about teaching the first girl in the family, "Hike" as her first word...he replied, "Yep, that's the way to start her!"
Food....my kids have so many food allergies and sensitivities that we are limited sometimes, I am looking for a good veggie dip with tofu. We'll do wings from my SIL, and chips...and maybe chili...I might make a cake..I am sort of noncommital with this since I am so exhausted from bronchitis and early pregnancy, we might just eat chips and lunchmeat!!
Can't wait to see how it all turns out...as far as the half time show.....confession ...in my younger scary days...shhhh, I listened to Prince...gulp...but I will be quickly turning it off. The boys saw him on a preview and they were like, "WHO IS THAT?? Do you know who he is?!?" I can't believe my parents let me listen to that stuff!!!!

Y'know, I didn't even know who is scheduled for the halftime show (although it's usually not suitable for watching). Thanks for the heads-up about Prince (if that's what he calls himself now) performing. We'll have to think of some fun activity to take place of the t.v. so we can turn it off during halftime. Maybe some exercising would be a good idea...

Okay, Garrett has informed me that we are cheering on the Colts because the Bears beat the Saints and that's just not right. So Colts it is here in Louisiana.
Dh and I went shopping last night. We're having family and friends over. Dh is fixing a chicken/sausage gumbo and potato salad. I'm fixing a tamale casser-OLE' so those who like a Mexican dish will be appeased. We'll also have chips and dip and a king cake.

Just finished the traditional pot o' chili. Dd will make cornbread tomorrow. Ds will make chicken wings and brownies. Dh bought the beer.
Born and raised in Chicago, we are Bears' fans. The last year the Bears were in the Super Bowl was 1985 and that was our newlywed year, so there's some nostalgia to this for us.
It is the only football game we watch all year long. We make a football pool with coupon prizes for each quarter such as: no chores for a day, no school for a day, you choose movie on movie night. Somehow I ended up with this heavy, metal souvenir Super Bowl ring and that has become our "trophy" to win for final score on the pool. One person keeps the ring for the year until the next Super Bowl.
Then we play an annual touch football game in the backyard during halftime. Kinda corny, but the kids look forward to it all and remember if I forget any part of the routine

Oh, and a Super Bowl tradition I have is to bake M&M cookies for the occasion. I make a batch to match each team - for example for Green Bay vs. Denver (and I was rooting for Green Bay!!!!!) one batch of cookies had orange and blue M&M's and the other had green and yellow M&M's. It's a fun snack. |

This is so funny! I am going to do the same, although this my first making these. I also "always" make the appropriate colored jell-o jigglers, with a football mold I got years ago.
We will be hosting 11yods's Godparents and their children. We have been alternating houses for Superbowl for years.
Menu also includes Mexican foods this year. Plus, baked beans. We always have to serve them, no matter the menu.
Ds's Godmother and I usually talk, and don't pay a whole lot of attention to anything but the commercials.
As ds's Godfather played football in college, and all my guys are sports' nuts, they are fairly glued to the set.
If I had to pick a team, I would have to go with the Bears. I really wanted the Patriots, (Tom Brady went to my alma mater.)
God Bless,

Sort of off topic......
One of the things dh and I have done over Super Bowl weekend is get some sort of sports movie for us to watch after dc are in bed, fri or sat night. Last night we watched INVINCIBLE, the story of Philadelphia Eagle's Vince Papale. It was good!!! Complete with interviews with him in the bonus section. Great, amazing story.
Of course, then we had all sorts of questions about what was fact and what was fiction in the movie, which led us to this website .
Anyway, kind of fun for Super Bowl weekend movie night.
