Weather Underground is a great site for this as it gives a load of information about day length as well as weather, including actual daylight hours as well as the photoperiod. This is the information it gives for us for today ...

Tomorrow will be 3m 22s longer.
I assume that civil twilight means the "useful" hours of daylight and would be used for working out when to turn on streetlights and so on. But what are nautical twilight and astronomical twilight? Jennifer????
Three minutes 22 seconds extra daylight in a day doesn't sound like much, but over a month it would be an hour and a half.

this is a great site, thanks! It also has cool "stickers" to put on blogs that will give the local weather in all different kinds of styles and ways (incl sunrise/sunset times!) Very cool

Here in cold and snowy Findley Lake, NY (Latitude 42.1 degrees North / Longitude 79.7 degrees west) our sunrise was 7:37 and sunset was 17:31 giving us a photoperiod of 9 hours and 54 minutes. So far, I think only Kathryn is farther north.

A whole 10 degrees of latitude furher north  , but nowhere near as cold and not snowy, thanks to the Atlantic Gulf Stream which gives us a mild climate. Ironically, some scientists think global warming could reduce temperatures in the UK dramatically by diverting the Gulf Stream.

For the first couple weeks of January we had decidedly "British" weather here. Temperatures in the 40's and 50's, rain, drizzle, rain, more drizzle, occasionally releaved by dense fog.... The snow is a welcome relief

Great idea to add the latitude!
We are located at 34°3′ 45.83″ N and we had a photoperiod of 10:28.
Are you all graphing/marking etc. our relative photoperiods/latitudes and if so, how. I wish there was a way to do this online. . .

I decided just to graph data for ourselves and for our team mates as giving us some good bench marks (northern Europe / southern-mid USA).

Marjorie, last year my gang graphed the ten mystery locations, our hometown, and one other location (Alice's, LOL). We figured twelve lines on the graph was enough to keep track of.
This year we might graph one or two others as well...Sarah (wahoo92) lives in our old hometown, so it might be fun to compare her graph to ours...and Kathryn and Jennifer (marihalojen) make nice north/south benchmarks for the 4Real gang.
