Praying hard and hope everything works out for the good, Beth.
Please let us know what's the dr. says. Hope you find someone you can talk to and trust.

Thanks everyone for your prayers. I know that they helped with our peace with this situation.
I went to the perinatalogist on Wed. She confirmed that the baby has a single umbilical artery, but she also said that the one artery has enlarged in order to compensate. She also did a very thorough u/s (over 20 min) of the baby checking all organs and spending alot of time checking the heart and the cord. She said the blood flow pattern through the cord was completely normal and had she not known about the single artery she would not have been able to tell from the blood flow pattern. Since SUA children have a higher incidence of heart defects she spent alot of time on the heart and said the heart looks perfect. In fact, she said that the baby looks very healthy. The baby was very active during the u/s and in fact went from a head down position to a transverse position during it. She said this is indication that there is plenty of water (which she could observe anyway). She mentioned the water as SUA babies also have a higher incidence of low water at the end of the pregnancy which can lead to cord accidents like the baby pinching the cord. So, her only recommendation is to start getting serial u/s starting I think about week 28 in order to keep an eye on the water. She also suggested making sure I am always well hydrated as that will help. All and all we were very pleased as it seems that the only issues we are facing are ones we can keep an eye on and act on.
As for the dr search. As I said before we don't have alot of choices in our area. At the beginning of the visit, the perinatalogist was really encouraging us to stay with our current practice, but the more that she heard about our experiences with them (which began with one of the drs telling me that I would need a section with our first child because I am short ) she said she thought we would be better off starting over somewhere else. She suggested we go to a hospital that has alot of births, which really only gives us one practice to choose from. So, I have an appt with that new practice. I am happy about it, although I have no reason to believe they are going to be any better than my current drs, but I know that my confidence in them can't be eroded to the pt it is with my current practice. There are other reasons why this new practice makes sense and I am hopeful that everything will work out there. The only downer is that the office and hospital are about 15 miles or so from my house while my current office and hospital are 6 blocks from my house.
Thank you again for all of your prayers. We will remember you in ours.
Beth
