Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What a delight to read these this morning while waking up with coffee in hand. Thank you all for sharing these great poems!
BTW, I'd never heard them called "trimmin's" before either!

Thanks for the all the poems! I am just amazed at what Father's poems do to me - I had a sensation on the back of my neck as my feelings welled at the end of the Partin' Rosary Erin!

I do remember TANGMALANGALOO - my mum used to laugh so hard at that one - she particularly loved his poems as she was rasied in a small place that had only 3 things - a pub, a community hall and the Catholic Church!

Alice I had not read Six Brown Boxer Hats before but I liked it! I really must find my copy of his book and read it in earnest, I know the children would love it.

Oh, and a big hat tip to Cay Gibson--I discovered the Trimmin's in a St. Patrick's Day post on her blog two years ago. After reading it, I needed to track down all his works. I now own both the Boree Log and The Parish of St. Mel's.

I meant to come back to this thread and kept forgetting. I just had to say how much I love the poems this priest wrote.

Here's the blog post I shared on St. Patrick's Day in 2005.

If you could please say a little prayer for the soul of my dear friend, Fr. William O'Brien. He was a saintly priest who first exposed me to these poems.

Oh, how I wish I had that little thread-worn book of poetry he showed me all those years ago. As a young college student I couldn't appreciate it as I would today. But I'm forever grateful for the memory.
