I just clicked on your blog pictures! I know you from the pool! How cool!
ETA: I do know you but you were a girl. I remember you had beautiful skin and amazing hair. Now, I feel really, really old. You have SEVEN kids! And I'm betting that you are the one Margie was talking about in September when she said she had another mom about to deliver who knew me...

Oh my! 
I can't even tell you...I am giddy with the joy at what a small world we live in. (My family is looking at me strange .)
My parents still live on Mulberry Bottom Lane.
Really, this is too much Elizabeth. I bought your book a few years ago, read it quickly and loved it, but it didn't change anything. The past two years I've reexamined so much of how we "do school" and I heard your book calling me. I knew with a large family we needed something different...the book called me...so I read it again this summer and read it again and again and what a difference it has made this year. Oh, there is so much more, but we have to eat dinner!
Just know that all summer, as I read your blog and posts here I felt like I was listening to a sister. I don't know that I can thank God enough for the gift of you.
And  I wish I could remember you from when I was young.

Me too! And I live in New England but just to be on the safe side, I order it "EXTRA light with CREAM (as opposed to milk) and one sugar."

Oh boy, now I feel even older because I remember you distinctly. I was the lifeguard at the pool for many, many summers. I coached swim team. And I remember you were really shy but we all (the staff) thought you were so beautiful!
For those of you looking in on this conversation, we've just figured out that we probably grew up about half a mile from each other.

1) She is still a girl.
2) She still has beautiful skin and amazing hair.
3) You are still not really, really old. Because if you are, then I am too. Once we start having kids, we're all pretty much the same. Right?

Maria, I absolutely feel this way. I think that's why it is so hard to explain homeschooling to someone who has never considered keeping their kids at home. It's a completely different way of looking at life, family, and education. A day in my home doesn't look anything like a day in school---and I don't want it to---but that can be so hard for non-homeschoolers to understand. Honestly, it took me a while to come to this realization and to be comfortable with it (i.e. not feel like I was failing  ).

Michele, I'm so glad you joined this lovely chat. Since you brought up the idea of moving, I'm curious why you would want to leave your home, especially when it is such a pretty part of the country and you have roots there. If this is too personal, please forgive me for being nosy and just ignore this question .
Dh and I are struggling with the dilemma of our next move (this summer). In the end, the Air Force will decide, but we do have some limited input. There are about 5 possibilities, based on his career field, and we have to prioritize them. It’s a lot harder than I anticipated, and we keep going back and forth. Nothing feels just right. Near his family or mine? Beautiful location and weather or a more hsing/family-friendly town? Better cost and ease of living or more opportunities? It’s all so confusing---it was so much easier when we could just let the AF decide and know it would only last for a few yrs if we didn’t like it.
We would really like it to be our last move---after dh finishes this next assignment, we hope he will retire from the AF, start a new career (and that will be ?), and we can stay put. Having moved around for the last 18 yrs, we would really like to establish some roots for the kids, especially since our oldest will be starting high school  . But the pressure of trying to decide where I want to spend the rest of my life!  I know I need to chill and stop thinking of it like that. I’m sure a year or so ago Lissa never imagined she’d be leaving her bonny glen in VA to start a brand new life in southern CA. It’s all an adventure, right?
Anyway, Michele or anyone else who hasn’t fallen asleep  and might have some insights, I guess this is my very long-winded way of wondering…if you are open to anything, how do you narrow it down to something?

And I have pictures that would probably jog your memory, but there's no way I'm posting photos of me in a bathing suit. ! This is dong me a world of good--I thought I was slowly losing my mind. (I'm losing everything else.) Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I rmember Des Colores bumper stickers on your parents' car and maybe one for Marriage Encounter in Spanish.

Personally, I've been lobbying (both God and my dh) for Connecticut...
What Helen says...and that puts you within a reasonable distance of MacBeth-guided nature outings and Alice's amazing teas.

I know that old Air Force...Diane and her dh will prioritize a list of places they want to go and he'll either be sent to Korea for a year alone (don't worry, he can hang out with my dd's godparents!) or he'll be sent to the DC area and I will get to meet her!!!!

Sounds like the Army. Many people try desperately to get away from Ft. Hood, while we've been trying for years to get here. Now, there are still people desperate to get away and we want to stay. Guess who they're trying to send away? Did I mention we just bought a house?

Diane, there is an air force base here in Northern Louisiana. Maybe you will end up here
Talking about moving, my dh and I are considering a move to Indiana but the cold terrifies me. How is it like to live up north? Aren't you scared of blizzards and driving in snow? We talked about moving to the NoVa area but everybody that has talked to us have said the same:" don't come here it is so expensive".
So Diane I know what you mean about decisions. Sometimes I wish God would talk to us in an audible voice. It would be so much easier...

I feel like an eavesdropper...LOL I want to post more, but I am TRYING hard to attend to all of my daily duties...and they never seem to let up!
I am Donna Marie and I have 7dc (13yo twin girls, 11yob almost 8yob, 6yog, almost 4yob, 2yog) and I live in NJ!
...Welcome Melanie!!...teaching twins to read is not hard at all...My twins came first and they were late to learn...they were NOT ready AT ALL...but by the time they were 8, they were reading as much as they could get their hands on! Twins can be a lot of work at first...now they are such a great blessing and help to me. They are my best friends!!
We drive a 15 passenger...we just got it....yaaaaay! It was a wonderful deal. I am proud to say I backed into a parking place and even though I got kinda boxed in, I managed to get out of that lot in one piece. Driving a 15 passenger is waaaay easier than the conversion van I used to drive...there is a lot more glass to see out of. It is kinda weird having such a long tail end, but after awhile you get used to "wearing" the van and it goes exactly where you want it to! I feel like a limo driver!
"School" is the best ever this year. I always feel behind, but it is more natural than it has ever been for us...full of interesting discoveries, sharing and great memories. Why do I always feel like the "homework police" are going to be mad at me...haha! It is hard to let go of what "I know"...(ie...conventional schooling and schedualing) so that I and the children can really learn something...does that make sense??
...it is so so so quiet here with the kids asleep so I just got back from sneaking into the kitchen steathily making some home made hot cocoa...mmm... anyone want some?

We purchased our 12 passenger (and I think it is the same size as the 15) "Monster Truck" just before baby number 6 was born, and I remember being petrified to drive it.
Oh, and a point of interest. A day or so after getting the truck, I had the opportunity to meet Josephine Nobisso (The Weight of a Mass) at a local Catholic shop. The shop was located in a place with very difficult parking in general, even for a small car, and I was almost afraid to go, especially with my (then) five young children on a winter's night.
Still, I decided to pray, and, of course, there was a huge, easy open spot directly in front of the store!
Now, how's that for a little ramble?
