Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

You know now that you mention it Alice, it was the same in my house growing up (another only child). My husband's house was much the same way (he's an only child, too).

I'm an only child and we served off of the pots/stove. Now with my four kids and a husband that likes to eat, I usually do family style. It also depends on what we are eating. Sometimes its a one pot meal so I just have them bring me their bowls to the stove.

This has been a really interesting thread.

I never really realized before (well only in the last couple years) how different the family dynamic between small families and larger families.

I guess being an only child, married to an only child and raising an only child I've not see the logistics of larger families. I have a very limited scope of knowledge. It never occurred to me until this thread, for instance, that my habit of serving plates in kitchen and having dd carry them to the table would not work as well if I had more kids.

I just love hearing how other families do things! Thanks for sharing.
