Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

JoAnna -- Amen, Sister!!!

My personal issue with naming has been extended family who have insisted on calling my dc by "nicknames" which are purposely avoided by us; e.g., Meghan IS NEVER called "Meggie"; Daniel is DECIDEDLY NOT Danny. I have known and loved people named Meggie and Danny, but those names fit the people who "wore" them; these are NOT my children! Oddly, the one that didn't get an "ee" is the one we called Katie; to them she was "Kate".

I so wish I were better at ignoring these kinds of thi ngs, rather than letting them get to me.

Peace,
Nancy

Nancy,

This is exactly why my daughter has a name you can't easily turn into a nickname (Martine). My cousin Kate will forever be "Katie" to my mom, and my poor cousin Diane has a "kiddie" nickname she despises, because she was named for my mom and then no one could keep two Dianes straight.

Strangely, no one in my family ever suggested names to me. Maybe I'm too stubborn to take suggestions.

One thing that did happen is that my s-i-l used the name I wanted for my first son for HER son (Robert). I wanted to name a son for my dad and dh's dad, but my son came along about 6 years after Bobby was born, sigh. (That's OK, we like ds's name!)

We've been blessed that noone has actively tried to foist names on us.

Speaking of foisting names on kids...
A Distant Family Member (not my side) was visiting us in the hospital when a nice lady brought all that paperwork in to fill out. I finished it and sent it off with the nice lady and the Distant Family Member followed her out the door still chatting. Weeks later when the Certificate came back it turned out that she told the lady we changed our minds and 'forgot' part of the baby's name. She added another middle name to the paperwork!!! The name is super short and super boring and was the name of her daughter that died.

I was not very pleased.
