Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So I don’t know what to call myself. Convert? Revert? Disaster? Don’t try this at home?   ...How about Catholic!

And how about phenomenal mother, beautiful wife, and priceless friend? I think those titles fit the bill quite nicely.

Midnight Mass goers, I will be praying for you in about an hour and eight minutes from now. May your babies and toddlers sleep, and may you all have a beautiful, grace-filled experience!

A happy and holy Christmas!

You would think that the seemingly slight differences between the east and west would not be obstacles in a friendship, wouldn't you? That's what I thought until I experienced it. I can say that there are many Orthodox Christians with a true respect for the Catholic Faith, but at the same time I've never encountered such vehement, anti-western, anti-Catholicism in all my life (and I live in the deeply Protestant Bible Belt).

So its not my imagination, then? Well, thank you for confirming that. It helps in future dialogue.

I think its awesome you take all your littles to Midnight Mass. I would sooo love to do that! Maybe one of these years. Our drive to Mass is almost an hour one way, so it just feels impossible right now.

Alice, you are so sweet!

Books, I'll keep you and your friend in my prayers. Obstacles can be overcome, they just take much prayer and God's grace.

Martha, how was midnight Mass?

Ours was beautiful. We had carols with trumpets at 11:30 and then the choir stopped right at midnight and you could hear the church bells ringing. It was so beautiful. And during the Mass we were blessed with responses chanted by a Gregorian schola in Latin.

My 3 yo and 6 yo slept through all of it and as we were leaving my 6yo was walking right beside me. We stopped to wish my dd's godparents a merry Christmas and I didn't realize that my ds had continued to walk. He was sleep walking! Thankfully, his mother hen of an 11 yo sister, saw him wandering and never left his side. But for the few brief moments when I didn't see him, I was in a total panic. Once I saw him, I began to think of how we have been liturgically living the Joyful Mysteries in these past few days: the Visitation on Sunday morning and then the Nativity on Monday morning. I really, really didn't want to have to live out the Finding in the Temple. 2-3 minutes was horrible. I can't imagine what Our Lady and St. Joseph went through for 3 days!

Thanks for asking Katherine. Your post perfectly describes our experience too - clear down to the Gregorian schola and trumpets!!    It was beatiful. One of my favorite parts was when the priests processed in and laid baby Jesus in the creche at the front of the church -- and then knelt before Him. Just beautiful! Our girls were so excited that they stayed wide awake the whole time. It did make yesterday more of a challenge since we were all so very tired. I'm so glad we went but we will have to decide if it's to become a yearly tradition or not. It wouldn't have been quite so tough yesterday had we not had to travel.
