Please pray for Baby Jack Kearns that his red blood cell count comes up so a
future transplant won't have any additional complications and that he eats
well so that he may come home to his family this weekend.
The surgery to correct the reflux problem was long but successful.

Wish I had seen this earlier. Wow. What a lot of trouble this little guy and his family have been through. We'll pray a Rosary tonight for them. Today we say the Joyful Mysteries. Sounds like this family needs joy in their lives. God bless,

I heard an update on baby Jack last night when my 8yo attended a book club with two of his big sisters. Unfortunately it looks like he won't be home yet. It sounds like there is some difficulty with his lungs, most likely as a result of the surgery and reflux. The information passed on to me was a bit vague. My friend who drove dd to the bookclub said that Jack's mom sounded discouraged, so please step up prayers for his parents as well. Thanks!

When my son had his surgery for his reflux, it took at least a month or more of up and downs to finally get the right combo of food in his g-tube, and for the reluxing to stop. He too was aspirating at times, which takes a toll on the lungs....but he did get better, and the surgery really was a lifesaver! I'll continue to pray for this poor little guy and the family....Those months were some of the hardest we have lived through...

My pastor told me this morning that Baby Jack is back in ICU and not doing well. He asked that you pray. Those are the details I have; perhaps someone else can fill in later.

Here is what I received by email earlier today:
Lisa asked that I fill you in on Jack's situation. He needs your prayers
urgently.
Jack's blood pressure has been low and he has not been himself over the
last couple of days. He was brought to the ER at Fairfax last night after
Lisa witnessed him have what she thought was a seizure. While in the ER he
experienced another seizure that lasted approx. 17 min. He was given a boat
load of medication to stop the seizure, which was eventually accomplished.
He was also taken for a CAT scan that showed some areas of damaged tissue in
the brain due to strokes possibly caused by lack of blood flow from the low
pressure or by a clot due to thickening of the blood. An MRI was ordered by
a neurologist to determine the extent of damage and possibly causation. The
difficulty was that Jack's blood pressure was unstable and he was too
fragile to take for the MRI. At about 4am, they successfully attained the
MRI and Lisa and Chris are now waiting for the results. In the meantime,
however, Jack's condition is worsening. He may be suffering from sepsis and
his blood is acidotic. They gave him some antibiotics for the possible
infection and sodium bicarbonate to change the blood Ph last night, but Lisa
said that he is still acidotic this morning and looking pale. "He is
getting sicker." she said. That is as good a summary as I can give you in
an email.
Please pray for Jack's condition to improve and for strength for Lisa, Chris
and the kids. Jack desperately needs the help of our prayers right now.

Thanks Suzanne. Please pray for the Kearns family and pray, too, for our pastor. He's very close to this family and wants nothing more than to be there with them constantly. Things are really busy at the parish and he's going to be exhausted.
