Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Thanks also, for the congratulations. DH and I haven't told many people yet, well, except ALL of you ladies , I have to admit I'm a little apprehensive. I know our homeschool friends will be supportive but I am 42 (yes, that first number is a 4)and I know our family and other "friends" will have lots of weird looks and questions. I'm praying for the right words and attitude - don't want to sound defensive off the bat, but don't want to sound apologetic either.

Becky, CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Christmas time is the easiest time of year to be 42 and announce a new baby, I think. Just add it to the Christmas cards.

Family can find out about it without you having to deal with their initial reactions and a face-to-face confrontation.

Congratulations, Becky!!! I read an article in SCientific American (I think) once that said women who have children at age 40 or later live longer.

As far as dishes go, we use our Blue Danube pattern (I have no idea who makes them, but it's a ery old pattern) every day and we've only lost a couple in 12 years of marriage (10 years with kids.) Granted that the kids do eat on plastic dishes much of the time, though.

Becky,

Congratulations!

We used melamine for many years and then got a secondhand set of Mikasa French Countryside. It's holding up well - we're adding to it.

Congratulations, Becky! I have my own little trick for sharing the news with neighbors and acquaintances who may feel negatively toward large families. I sort of beat them to the punch by enthusiastically telling them the news and immediately following up with, "We are all so thrilled!" (Make sure you have a huge smile on your face for this part of the conversation.) I have never had anyone say anything negative after that announcement. They may think we are crazy, but at least they don't say it to my face! And I just wrote about being the mom of a newborn at age 42 on another forum. There are plenty of us older moms here.

I have three sets of everyday dishes. One is Corelle, one is Pfalzgraff, and one is the very large set of white dishes that someone linked to here on this forum last year. There must be at least a handful of us here who bought them and now have matching dishes! I really like that white set or the Pfalzgraff for company dinners, but for normal weekday family dinners my favorite dishes are the Corelle. My younger girls can easily help with setting and clearing the table, and I don't worry about chipping or dropping. They are really boring looking, but I genuinely like them.

Congratulations, Becky! We use Corelle and love it, but it's all I've ever known! As for telling the good news, we always let the kids do it....
God bless,
Angela

Thank you everyone, you're so kind. I am so full of joy about this little one when I am home or talking to homeschool friends that understand. Then I go out somewhere or think of my family and start worrying all over again. It's totally silly - I think it's Satan trying to steel my joy about a new baby. Your encouragement is much appreciated and helpful.
As far as dishes goes, I think I'll invite my mom up for the weekend and she and I can spend the day shopping! There is an outlet mall not too far from here and I think it has a Mikasa outlet and a Pfaltzgraff outlet. I think it will help to see them in real life and actually hold them. I have a feeling I will go with the Corelle though as it seems lighter and easier for the kids to help with. I'll see. Knowing me, I'll want to get two sets - one for the kids and one for the adults!! Luckily, budget restrictions keep me from being too greedy .    Maybe I'll buy lunch for my Mom and tell her then. I'll have to practice saying it with enthusiasm! I know she will be happy - she LOVES her grandchildren. She just worries about me.
Thanks again and blessings to you all!
