I agree with the Mums who say BREASTFEED... nurse on demand. I doubt whether you'll need more, but just in case you WANT to know more about NFP, you just have to google it... there are some really GREAT sites out there.
There are great books about it too... and software you can also use (I like Ovusoft-- not strictly NFP, but able to be used that way... her book also has good pictures to help you understand cycles if you need it).

Michaela,
One more thing, and I'm not an authority on this, but isn't it true that you don't have to worry about pregnancy until your cycles start again after a birth? |

I find it very inappropriate that your husband was called. I think it was inappropriate that it was discussed on a cell phone & not in a more professional manner.
It doesn't surprise me. Look at society. Unborn children are murdered and tossed out with medical waste. Children are considered a hazzard, a problem and something to be avoided. Human life means little.
Sadly, many people don't practice their faith and even fewer have any faith at all.
You OB is just a product of society. Her views are shared by many.
My OB (very professionally and gently)discussed "terminating" if there should be a birth defect/syndrome etc. I firmly told him no and asked that it is written on my chart for it not to be discussed again and it is never an option. He was fine with that. He discussed a tubal and I again explained how we felt. He was fine and just took notes. He did advise me medically what is involved for a third C/S. (nothing very good)
I was not offended that my OB brought it up; he was very respectful.
If he was snippy about it or gave me a lecture...that would be different.
The whole thing is pathetic that this is the norm for society.

DH and I talked it over and we are going to the hospital tomorrow to try to get permission to be seen at the Catholic hospital. (We aren't authorized to go w/o receiving permission or we have to pay for everything out of pocket)
I knew the birth control talk would happen, I just wasn't ready for it over the phone instead of in the office.
During each visit before 20weeks I was continually advised & reminded that under our state laws I could terminate this pregnancy. They wanted to make sure I got an ultrasound done before then to help in the decision making. Standard procedure...I didn't like it, but knew it was coming. Turning down tests to know if our baby had something wrong. Tears welled up when I first heard that thinking, "Do you know how much we've wanted another baby!!" Hated the attitude that if the baby is not perfect on the ultrasound you can terminate.
It would have helped to have one doctor because I explained my wishes at my first appt, but I've never seen that dr again. This is the first pregnancy that I don't think I've seen any dr more than once.
Oh, and I called today to change my next appt to a different dr (just my luck the only time I'll see a dr twice will be the woman I just saw) ....well, there are no more openings with other OBs until after I'm scheduled for the c-section (on Dec 27).

Gosh Micaela, I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. It's too bad that your doctors can't share your joy with you.
You mentioned earlier that you were looking for resources to help you learn about NFP...an excellent book for learning about breastfeeding and natural child spacing is Breastfeeding and Natural Child Spacing by Sheila Kippley (scroll down the page to find the book).
Another thing to consider is that in learning NFP, you'll be learning things that can help you ACHIEVE pregnancy in the future, too. My dh and I teach the sympto-thermal method of NFP through the Couple to Couple League. One thing I really like about NFP is that if you are charing when you become pregnant, you can use the information on your chart to determine a very accurate due date. This is really important for women (like me!) who have irregular cycles. If you tend to ovulate late, then the due date the doctor gives you (which is based on your last menstrual period) can be off by a week or more. Since you have scheduled c-sections, that could make a big difference.
With this last pregnancy, I wasn't charting very much and didn't have much information on which to determine a due date, but we were able to determine that the doctor's due date was at least a week too early. He really wanted to induce labor at 41-42 weeks and I was able to show him that I really wasn't that far along yet. I went into labor on my own at just under 41 weeks. In the future, I'm going to make sure I'm charting, ESPECIALLY when trying to achieve pregnancy , b/c all the talk about being "overdue" was extremely stressful for me. Having a more complete chart would have saved me a lot of anxiety.
If you have any questions about the sympto-thermal method, please feel free to ask me...it might take me a little while to get back to you (due to my little nursling!), but I will!
