Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Reviving this old thread! We rented this movie from Netflix but I noticed on their site they reviewed it and gave it a "10 and up" rating. This is mainly for violence, but they did say there was quite a bit of speculating as to how Mary became pregnant, including St Anne hinting at rape.

Now I am hesitant to show it to my kids. How overtly shown is all the speculating? Will the kids pick up on this?

Thanks.

Molly - we watched this with all the kids during Advent. None of my children can take the Holy Innocents (we had them out of the room) - and Herod was scary for my 4 year old. There was speculation about the pregnancy - but it went right over the heads of all my children - no questions asked. Personally - I really did not like the portrayal of Saint Anne and Saint Joachim - and did not like the way Mary was portrayed either. There were moments I liked (cannot think right now)- it is not a bad movie - but not one which will become an Advent favorite either. Even the kids said - Jesus of Nazareth is so much better.

DH and I started to watch it just before Christmas. I was NOT impressed with the portrayol of the Blessed Mother. She was sulky and petulant, imo, although it was subtle. We ended up not finishing it and sending it back. I was glad I hadn't watched it with the kids.

We just Netflixed this at Advent too! I did not let any of the children see it. Hubby did a showing at his college and they had a discussion time with the college students.
The Holy Innocents was intense and I didn't like the falling into the river scene with Mary and Joseph as they were on the way to Bethlehem. I too thought that Mary was portrayed less than my mind had invisioned her. I see that watching a movie can erase some lovely mind pictures that you have created over the years with reading the Nativity story from the Bible each year. I will wait to let my kids see this. I did read the book that came out with the movie two years ago. It was interesting to read a book that was written about a movie.
Alternatively I did let the kids watchh Jesus of Nazareth this Advent.
