Thanks, everyone, for your prayers!
Though we found out by noon that there was indeed a broken bone to cast, it took till early evening to get the cast placed.....of course by that time, he missed sledding at Shawna's......so he was quite dismayed....he had been begging for his cast all day ....so he could sled......but once we got home and it was time for bed, he kept saying: I hate this cast. I want it off now.....he took forever to get comfy and settle to sleep.......by that time, I was too pooped out to post.
Then, during the night, he was really struggling with some pain.......so, I had to get up and get him some motrin.......painful for me, of course
He actually fractured TWO bones, the ulna and the radius.....luckily it was 2cm away from the growth plate.......it was a very GOOD break.......and our favorite doctor handled him very well.
The doctor asked me when he came into the room if someone was dying......it took me a few minutes to realize what he was getting to......he says: I never you see you in here!!......he said I usually call first anyway........ I told him I only come in for broken hearts and broken bones (this is NOT the first broken bone we have had here).....and I was pretty sure we had a broken bone here....no need to chat about it first! I knew the routine!
Erin, please thank Malachi personally for his prayers! Malachy really apppreciated it.....esp his mother!
Thank you, Willa, for your vote of confidence! Tonight when I was reading the boards.......I pointed to Paddy in your arms and said: who is that? Malachy says, "Willa" Isn't it nice to be known?
4 Lad's mom...........just set rules and enforce them.....it worked here
seriously though, our top bunk is for a 16yo boy (as of Sunday!!) and it has no rail, and is probably higher than the usual bunk.......fashioned out of two beds made by my great grandfather.......I had to spend time reassuring my sister about HER son's bunk! His is VERY safe. The scary part is, Malachy used to climb up there as a new 2 yo........and has been known to take a jump from there....eek! He was such a jumper!!
Malachy says he climbed up there to drop a parachute down, and leaned over to watch it fall......and you know the rest of the story
Gotta get to bed! More prayers for a restful sleep please
btw.......he is really good with is left hand!
Nite!

Glad to hear you got Malachy patched up. My 6 y.o. dd broke those bones last summer....I'll ask her to say some prayers for your son. She handled the cast pretty well but missed out on a lot of swimming so she'll understand his pain of missing out on sledding.
Hugs to the mommy!

I'm so relieved it's a "good" break.
Years ago...I was about 16 I think, I jumped off the bunk bed on Easter morning. I was to play the organ at Church. I didn't break my ankle, but tore ligaments and didn't go anywhere that day.

Yes, Chari, Paddy and Aidan were very concerned about Malachi! Cute when they can remember someone who isn't right there all the time! Glad it was a "good" break anyway if it had to be a break at all.

Chari, that sounds like Paul's break from this summer--right off the bunk-bed, both bones. Paul's' excuse? "I was doing a somersault, and the bed was shorter than it looked!"
Thank God they did not land on their heads. Arms heal.
Hugs and prayers for your little guy!

Chari, Good Luck with the cast.
DD#3's was on for only 3 weeks--below the elbow-palm and the pinky and ring finger.Once the pain was gone it worked fine. If it gets too ugly looking Vet-tape comes in fun colors, is inexpensive, changeable and covers a multitude of dirt.
A few hints from DD
-Do not itch with a pencil with a removeable eraser--it is hard to position it correctly once it is stuck.
-when you take off the plastic bags after showering, keep your hand up, water travels down with gravity--bathing went better
-do not get Chinese food in the cast--it smells funny.
With the cast she could ride and play piano--on some songs she switched hands, crossed over.
BUT with the cast she was unable to do math or writing and typing was tedious.
Praying,
Viv

Jenn? you were 16 years old???? what were you thinking??
So sweet, Willa......tell Aidan and Paddy the cast comes off next Wednesday!
Very funny, MacBeth! Thanks for the prayers! And hugs!
Viv, please thank DD#3 for the advice.......we were cardeful to keep all things out of the cast, ESP the Chinese food
today he wanted to write in his handwriting workbook.......he kept struggling..........till I finally had to convince him he had to wait till his right hand was available .....I had forgotten he could not write with his left hand.......though he seems able to do everything else!
Thanks, Marie for the hugs and commiseration!
Please pray that the bones are healed when we take the cast off on wed.
I have a really funny story about "offering up" the pain and cast.......but it is too late to write it......
night, finally!
