Nina, I am enjoying your questions, what a busy brain
We are very proudly Irish on my mums side, Collinses from County Clare Yes we are related to Michael Collins.
On my Dads side we are English migrating out on the First Fleet courtesy of Her Majesty
Of interest, my great great grandmother was Aboriginal on my grandmother's side and I have a great grandmother who was Jewish (converted to Catholicism)on my grandfather's side. Have heard there was Spanish somewhere. Mostly we identify with the Irish background. Dh's background is Irish/English too, but he isn't so firery

My dh is almost 100% Italian with a teeny bit of French thrown in.
I'm adopted - but from what my mom can remember of the files they got to look at on me, I'm mostly English, Irish, German...with some Norwegian and something else that escapes me thrown in. I know there were a lot of nationalities. Just call me a mutt from the pound.

I'm half Scottish (my mother's parents were both Scottish emigrants to Canada) and about a quarter Dutch with some Scotch-Irish and English on the other side.
My husband is about half Irish and the other half is mostly Danish and English. So our kids are mostly Celtic but a bit Anglo and northern European.
I have dual nationality -- American and Canadian. Not ethnicity but funny that in our New World one can be about 300% of a person total. 100 percent American, full Canadian and all that ethnic background there too

I'm mostly English and German on my father's side, and Scottish and French on my mother's side. My father's family came to America about 30 years after the Mayflower, and my mother's family a few years after that. Lots of Anabaptists and Huegenots in that crowd!
DH is 1/2 Italian and 1/2 Polish. His grandparents on both sides immigrated to the U.S. early in the 20th century.

Our children 100% American mutts.

I'm 1/2 Irish, 1/4 Hungarian, 1/4 German
DH is 1/16 Cherokee and who knows what else? (many early parent deaths and adoptions in his family of origin)
My father is very proud of his Irish heritage and it amuses me that my mother has taken over that attitude as well -- pretty much to the exclusion of her heritage. (maybe amuses is the wrong word - )

I'm Irish and German (from the Black Forest area)
My husband is an absolute unknown, though as he cannot grow an actual beard and tans like nobody's business, he assumes part Indian from somewhere.
That 300% person can really get you sometimes, Willa. Dh received a funny letter when he was younger and in the US Army, he couldn't read it so took it to the Commanding Officer. It ended up being his German draft notice!!! He definitely placed a call to his Mom over that and found out that he was born off-base on German soil (but to US parents) so he had to decide which military to be in.

I am half Dutch and some Irish, French and American Indian. But only Dutch genetics came through.
Kevin is Scottish, American Indian and Irish. I'm afraid mostly the wild and lawless Scottish came through. Galbraiths got kicked out of a lot of castles.

My mom's parents were illegals from Mexico. My dad's family traces its roots back to Austria. Through him we are cousins to George Washington.
I've decided that my features are sort of "non-specific ethnic". I am often told that I look like this or that singer (Britney Spears! ), actress, or politician's wife. I've been mistaken for being Jewish, Palestinian, Puerto Rican, Bedoin, Spanish....the list goes on. Nearly everyone is surprised to find out that I'm part Mexican. Go figure.
Bill is African-American so there is quite a mix there including Scottish and Cherokee.

I am 100% pasta-eatin, testa-dura Italian. My parents both immigrated to Canada in the late 60's. I was their second child, but the first child born in Canada in 1972. All of my relatives are still in Italy. We've been back many times to visit. And I hold dual citizenship so can actually participate in Italian elections.

This has been undeniably, fascinatingly, amazingly interesting.
Thank you ALL for posting. I have so enjoyed hearing your backrounds.
My mother is a genealogy freak---her passion. Her mother was a Roper and she traced us back to Will Roper, who married St. Thomas More's daughter, Margaret.

Erin, you're so right...a busy mind! That describes me well.

I am a lot of German, Sicilian, Irish, but since I was estranged from the Sicilian/Irish side of my family, only grew up knowing the German part, mostly... my paternal grandmother also always claimed Swedish, French-Canadian, and Native American background, and from her skin tone and the black, black hair that runs through the family, I'd guess the Native American part is probably true, though lost. Fractions escape me, but I have great-grandparents from Bavaria, Sicily, and County Waterford, Ireland.
My step-mother is 1/2 French-Canadian (her mother lived in Quebec until she was 12), and so I was raised with some French-Canadian culture and food. As an interesting genealogical aside, her mother's family has a book tracing their lineage all the way back to Normandy in the 1500's. Apparently they were one of the first 300 families to emigrate to New France .
My dh is a bit less of a mutt :-). His background is mostly English and Swedish, with a little Irish thrown in. (My 4 boys all look like little Vikings.) Everyone assumes his last name (our last name) is Dutch, but it actually goes back quite a long way in England, and Henry VII's personal physician actually shares first name and surname with my dh. I was reading a book on the spice trade when I stumbled on it, and my husband's family had NO idea.

Nina,
Thank you for your questions! Thank you also to all who respond. I quite enjoy reading the responses.
Like Amy, I am adopted and have often called myself a mutt of nationalities.
I am Irish (paternal) and German, Nordic and Cherokee Indian (maternal).
My husband is a "purebreed" 100% French Canadian.
I am often asked if I am French because our children are all named French names with French spellings. (I use the non-French names I would have chosen if name selecting was all up to me for our blog. Yet, since naming our children was a joint effort, we agreed upon the French names Luc-Henri, Matthieu, Alexandre, Jeremie and Ava-Thérèse for our Sweet Treasures).
Once when I was pregnant, I answered that I have no French in me, but my mother-in-law said "you do right now!"
Blessings,
