That's a fantastic idea, Nicole! Also thanks for pointing out that specific craft link. I see that it is listed as new craft for the page. I thought I knew all the crafts they had on that page. I didn't see that one when I was looking for crafts there last year.

I finished putting together our family's St. Nicholas Unit Study and lapbook/notebook plans. I have posted it here and it is complete with daily plans and all necessary books and links (mostly online, free sources).

I was just reading Suzanne's blog, Gladdest Hours, and she shares a marvelous idea on how to celebrate St. Nicholas' feast day.
I didn't read all of the posts here so I'm not sure if it was already mentioned....

I kept ours pretty simple this year.
The children received their traditional gift of books and we read the lovely book Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus (illustrated by Joel Spector.
Today is my father's feast day. For our last two babies (both girls) we had planned to give a boy the name of both grandfather's middle names: Nicholas Dean. I still have those names reserved.

Thanks, Maria.....I was just coming here to post about our party this year. It was geared for the 4-7-year-old crowd.
Everyone loved the "Ode to Nicholas" song that Victoria mentioned earlier in the thread, and I am humming it as I type . It's "saint-based" and easy for the littles.

I received this book St. Nicholas: A Closer Look at Christmas, as a gift from a friend this year.
It is absolutely sumptuous! a larger coffee table book with many many many beautiful images (past and present) of st. nicholas. history, stories, legends, etc. it's beautiful!

Isn't it great? I can't remember where I read that there's a connection with one of the authors and the lady who runs the St. Nicholas Center. I can't sing enough praises for that book.

I read that somewhere too, and can't remember either; it's not in the book, I just looked.
On page xi, the caption for the photo says "st. Nicholas collectible from the USA, one of more than 700 in the Canterbury collection of Canon Jim Rosenthal." So, maybe the collection in Holland, MI at the st. nicholas center is part his??????

Ooo...I checked it out at the library earlier in Advent and loved it. I really wanted to keep it but it was on hold and new books only check out for a week. It's really worth owning.

OK....here is the explanation of the relationship between Carol Meyers (stnicholascenter.org) and Jim Rosenthal who wrote St. Nicholas: a closer look at christmas.
